VW multivan t6.1 electric doors failure - control module unit

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone is able to tell me where the control module is located for the rear sliding electric doors on a 2021 t6.1?

We have had non stop issues with the rear sliding doors for the past almost 2 years with constant back and forth to VW. They have now finally got to the stage they are sliding open on their own whilst driving and not locking. Finally took it in and had someone who actually knew what was wrong - he ordered the part in and I was told it’s a easy 15 min job to replace the part.

Now VW have had my car all day and have just called to say they cannot do the repair even though it’s under warranty as we have had a wheelchair lift installed 15 months ago in the boot and they need to access under the lift to get to the control module.

The guy I originally spoke to I cannot remember his name but he knew I had the lift in there and said this wouldn’t be an issue.

So just trying to see if they are correct or trying to palm it off. I got quite annoyed with them and mentioned this was a joke as the issue had been happening since before the lift was installed and they were aware of that. So they are trying to claim the part is covered under warranty but not the labour to do it as we have modified the vehicle.

Any advice or help. Located in Australia

Thankyou. Not sure what the guy was on about then with it being a 15 min job 🤦‍♀️ as obviously this needs the rear seats removed also to be able to get to it. No wonder the service guys sounded a bit frustrated.

Control modules live inside the rear quarter panels near the back edge of the wheel arch
Thankyou. I’m assuming then there is one for each rear door? As I’ll need to double check they have actually got 2 in as the issue is with both rear doors and the way they were talking was like it was just 1 unit.

Or if it is just one unit do you know if it would be on rear RHS OR LHS? Being that it is right hand drive in Australia

From what I can ascertain, there is a control unit for each motor and another control unit which is on the RHS inside the back panel by the D pillar. It should be accessible if you can remove that panel.
Apparently they get water in them and start playing up. I think they had a recall on earlier models, so assume that was resolved for later models though.

If it helps picturing where they are the "powered" bit is the middle rail of the slider and the motor is essentially mounted on the back of that rail at the rear end inside the van. The horizontal rib you see in the picture above is the channel the rail sits in when you look from outside the van. The control modules are then tucked below that at the wheel arch.

As said above but just to clarify as I’ve had the same issue with water getting in to the “sender” module which is the one behind the rear wheel arch. The one in the door is a receiver which when you operate from the key fob it sends signals to the rear module and vice versa. The main module can suffer a failure caused by the sender getting water in it and then causing a short circuit as they are electrically connected. I have a brand new “Door receiver module” for sale at a reduced price if any one needs one. The middle picture is the water damaged one - it had completely burnt out and corroded the terminals
