VW saying they don't change DSG oil filter..

well we are doing my mates T6 bitdi tommorow , oil and filter of cource his has done 40,000 miles
mine was at 60,000

ps: the oil filter does not come with the oil filter housing O ring , thats extra cost £6-ish
why would anyone remove the filter for inspection is beyond me ,
any self respecting mechanic or engineer would not do that on any filtration system..

pps: you do need vag-com to check the oil temp before doing the level proceedure

Remove to renew it but inspect at the same time.
 
If the DSG oil is being replaced. Shouldn’t the filter& the filter housing O ring be replaced at the same time?
Also shouldn’t the Mechatronics be drained as well?

Just been told by VW Midland that the Mechatronic doesn’t have its own drain plug on a T6 68 7 speed, so gets drained from main plug
 
I've done 2 of these now, changed oil / filter and O ring
there was a drain plug on the side to do the mechatronics unit too
but im talking 2013 and 2015 dsg vehicles
 
I don’t have a DSG but if I did I’d be changing the filter, it’s a sensitive and expensive component.
I’ve been a bit slack with my A4 manual however having just changed the gear oil for the first time in 21 years / 210K miles. I expected a fair bit of debris after that length of service but there was just enough steel debris to half cover my small finger nail.
 
dsg and manual are totally different, however DXX you did well at 210k miles
manual uses proper oil like diffs etc
dsg is some watery vag rubbish or it would last !
 
Hi, VW have just written to me to say the 7 speed wet DSG box doesnt have a filter. So oil only is to be changed every 40k miles. They also add that it is not policy to tell customers what model dsg box they have. I understand mine is a QD500 and I know it has an oil filter, be it virtually inaccessible above behing the engine and box. I feel that VW say no filter as they do not care if it isnt taken to them for services and they can absolve themselves of any responsibility and possible make some money when the box fails. Not impressed with VW vans uk at all from buying new to 4 years later. Does anyone have any proper info about filter changes and how to actually get to the filter without asking a seven year old with long thin arms or cutting a hole in the floor..mmh?
Oh VW also say that my DSG box has TWO clutches, wow they must be so rare.

DQ500 filter change is easy if a little messy. A couple of long extensions for your ratchet and a universal joint mid way and the housing can be undone.

You'll want to pack around it with old rags. Once undone even my fat arms could wiggle it out.
 
My local VAG specialist do clean out the little filter, looks a bit like a thimble, they did mine and took a photo to show me it was clear of any debris/sludge.

DQ500 filter looks like a regular engine oil filter just a bit smaller. Not sure what they showed you if it looked like a thimble.
 
OP, you've been told a load of BS by VW. I did my 204 DSG fluid & filter at Easter. The filter is easy to get to with just a long extension, messy as other posters say if you don't put (quite) a few rags around the filter as you lift it out, as you get around a cup full of fluid comes out. It would be crazy to change the fluid and not the filter I'd say! Not tricky or difficult to get to.

All T6 DSGs are DQ500 seven speed. Same as the DQ381 seven speed in the Golfs etc, they're just in a more compact form factor.

@catfood12 Mine’s got an oil leak somewhere up higher than the usual crank seal, means I’ll need to have a new water pump, cambelt etc, even though they were only done last year :rolleyes::mad:

I’m out of warranty so what time can I drop it round? ;)

You say, easy to get the filter out? I changed my engine oil and had a good poke around. I could only get my finger on the top of the filter from below the vehicle and that was with someone guiding me by looking from above. Could you explain which route the filter took to get out, where the extension went in, or down and out. I feel that parts have to be removed to gain access. Ant suggestions gratefully received.
