VW T6 Diff Lock Stuck on

I would agree - no light - no diff-lock.

Basically no light on the dash indicates no vacuum at the diff-lock. Can be wiring, solenoid, or failing vacuum line.
Have you checked for fault codes?
No not yet, I need to get a fault code reader..
I’ll get one when I’m back home later in the month

I drove to work. Literally 5mins from home, but was having a delivery to my work and thus I took van. I walk to work, normally. As I turned into my work road, the beep alerted me to a fault, i looked at dash i had the 4wheels with the X on it light on dash. As I turned, what sounded like clicking could be heard and I could feel it through the wheel too.

I drove it back home whilst under that fault. Felt awful when turning. Parked up at home. Plugged in vcds and the statement is attached above.

I assumed it was the diff lock due to light on dash and sound. It may be other things. But whilst on fault, i could neither engage/disengage diff via the switch.

I have since cleared all faults. I've not driven it yet.

Well the good news. I have had my Differential Lock activation sorted. Evidently there are two vacuum devices, one to activate and hold, the other to disengage. The device that activates did not provide enough vacuum to hold so he replaced it. I think that is what he said. The part took a day to arrive. Evidently he had to resort to old fashioned mechanical investigation methods because no fault code was generated. He smiled at that. Nice to see, a serious guy you understand. I think that he intimated that some differential locks might get stuck on.

What a difference it makes too. Went up the snowed up narrow trackway at my customary crawl, like a dose of salts, not a single hint of a slip or hesitation. Great feel, very positive ride over the slippery rocks very happy. Now I need to negotiate the Down hill Assist supply and fitment. AND THEN, AND THEN? mummmm whats next. Sorry I do not have one of those code thingummy jig's or very much ability, I do not even posses a smart phone and leave a simple phone permanently off in any case so it would be a big learning curve for me I expect to suddenly learn how to switch something on and off all of a sudden. Perhaps over time maybe. So I can not add to the excitement of a report of how I did it I am afraid. Thank you for the help.

I'm pleased for you that you've finally sorted it, sounds like you've got a good mechanic there.

I do not believe that is always the case! My differential lock operated for quite a while months if not more than a year with the switch light on but no light on the dash or binnacle as i would call it. It was only lately that It failed to operate at all.

Yes he is very good, unassuming, polite, quiet and serious. In fact today is the most he has spoken in one go. Normally he has loads of cars in, parts vans arriving, lots going on. It looked a quieter day, perhaps because of the snow. Old school, perhaps but with modern equipment and not averse to old fashioned investigation techniques. I would say the best mechanic and workshop owner I have come across in all my years. A very good find. As I have said before he is respected by other Garages in the region.

Well, my statement was based on a quick experimenting with a working diff-lock.
Anyways, as the lights are just a feedback based on a couple of switches in diff-lock actuator it's quite possible the diff-lock was still engaging.

Thanks for the feedback - very valuable piece of information

binnacle as i would call it.
I like that very much - I had to use a dictionary to understand

On a VW T6, I assume left/right is in relation to you sitting in the drivers seat. So left is nearside and right is offside?

I also for got to say, someone recommended that I have the Haldex oil changed and filter cleaned, perhaps not this thread. It has only done 27,000miles and evidently it was very filthy and definitely needed doing. So thank you for who ever suggested it to me!:)

Update on my difflock error - bus is at BM. They found a magnetic torch left there, probs after last service. This has caused my issues apparently. I will know more once I chat with them after picking it up. Weird.

Yes, that issue is fixed. Im just getting some guttering fitted and a new side window fitted whilst im there.
