So I've recently joined the Caravelle club and the Vw 4 bike rack came with it...

Max load is 60kg, and from Google looks like max weight per bike is 17kg. Has anyone successfully used an ebike on it weighing circa 24kg?

Yeh it's 7kg over stated weight but just wondering whether anyone has braved it and to what success!

If its no good it'll be going up for sale!

Cheers

Seems like a potentially expensive test, aluminium readily cracks.
You might also find yourself liable if your bouncing bike damages other vehicles.

For me the bigger challenge would be the lifting 24kg bike over my head. I would expect the carrier to be strong enough.

Is it worth taking the battery out of the bike before lifting onto the bike rack?
These battery powerbanks usually weigh a few kgs by themselves.
Also, if carrying more than 1 bike, always place the heaviest bike closest to the tailgate / barn doors.
Fulcrum points and all that...

I've carried my ebike & 2 other normal bikes with no problems / cracks for the last 4 years on a Vw 4 bike, bike rack.

Can I add to this question please, is it possible to modify the rack by say adding brackets to change the 2 slots into one to take the extra weight of one e-bike Instead of 2 bikes?
Thank you.

I'd suggest a lighter bike!
The batteries add too much weight so the better way is to use a biomechanical locomotion method, assisted by a healthy biological fuel with a little added alcohol for extra va-va-voom!
