I had a side gouge taken out of my old t5 and the lower side panel resprayed for 250 all in. My cat could repair that tailgate and it would look as good as mew.
Perhaps they see a T6 and think they can charge twice as much because you paid twice as much as you needed to for a van.....like when you take an Aston or Bentley in for a scratch repair...
I've got a local bodyshop with years of experience giving me a quote, I expect it to be half the original one, but even this guy said the tailgate was toast.
Sorry to see that fella... I saw it Saturday night as I took the short cut past your place to avoid the stinky right turn when coming down the hill on the main road....

So, circa £3k at VAG approved bodyshop, £2k with the same guys that fitted my snowplough and rear spoiler and then I got a final quote from a local guy who's a proper old school panel beater.
Old school guy repairs the bumper and tailgate, makes an almost indistinguishable repair, if you know where to look there are very very slight signs, but overall it's as perfect as you could possibly hope to get.
Cost was £900 all in and he turned it around in 4 days, the photo's don't do it justice, the sun is out and it makes it look as though there's dust/powder in that area but it's just the angle of the sunlight.
