Want a T6 204 DSG but are they reliable?

Ok so after much thought I’ve decided if I’m buying another Transporter then I’m not buying anything other than a 204hp DSG. Otherwise, may as well be ‘sensible’ and keep the current vehicle.

I have seen a low mileage 66 plate for sale at reasonable money but remember reading something/ somewhere about early 204s having issues?

Can anyone tell me if this is true ... what to check ... what to avoid ??? Before I take the plunge...

Mine has been generally reliable. 2017 204 DSG PV. None of the DEF shenanigans or unnerving unreliability that is so often reported, it's a superb engine and drive. Great torque and drivability. It still astonishes me that I have a 2.0l derv van that's more powerful that a Sierra Cosworth!

Several pieces of warranty work which seem to affect all T6s; tensioner, EGR pipe splitting, DMF going loose, front mains oil seal, rear mains oil leak though flywheel bolts. These all seem to be batch/VIN specific and not 204 related.

I just bought a 2017 27k miles one yesterday, I’m hoping the answers are all positive!!

My 204 has 25,000 miles, egr flexipipe is the only fault so far. I always use premium diesel, Millers additive and 5k oil changes.

I’ve also had a TVS gearbox map and a Revo engine tune, pretty nippy for a breadvan.

Iv got a 20plate 9k miles on so far nothing wrong drives lovely. Catfood do you have a Sierra cosworth?

What did the revo map take yours too?

A revo remap is on my immediate ‘to do after buying’ list - I take it the difference is well worth the money? Driven semi-sensibly what does it do to the economy ? Cheers..

Mines a 4-Motion, DSG, it was thirsty before, it’s still thirsty but I don’t have any real before/after figures, but roughly 22ish round town and 30ish on a run.

The engine remap is great, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it, it’s all about the smooth torque, not 0-60.
