Welcome new members

Hello! My T6 camper conversion is currently having the final touches put on it in the factory and should be ready in the next couple of weeks. I’m so excited, and very happy to stumble across this forum as it looks right up my street. I look forward to getting to know all you lovely people and learning lots more about all things VW! I’m Emma, single mum to two girls aged 15 and 12, and one yellow labrador dog who is definitely going to suit the van dog life.

hi all, nick here from south lincs... after 3 years larking about spending a load of money on a caddy im back in the transporter next wk. really looking forward to it. the caddys been great fun for a few years and I've modded it fairly nicely - its been a good head turner and a lovely thing to cruise about in... but times change... it also got to the point here i'd modded it too far. it was awkward for work and most jobs involved loads of down time running around reloading the van as i couldn't get everything in in one load ... so i figured the extra cost of the transporter would be made that back up in better productivity . then a second child needed carrying about and the caddys life was doomed (I've previously had three other transporters x5's and x1 6... so it'll be nice to be back

new vans here next

ps! since i bought my last t6 4 ish years ago... wow they've got expensive !!! ha

see you out there

Hi there, new to the forum, I have a 68 plate Caravelle Exec, 150 DSG which I bought 2 years ago. I've wanted one for ages and finally got sign off. I've got 3 boys and we absolutely love it. Planning a big roadtrip into France and Spain I have a quick question, I'm getting a OIL SERVICE NOW warning popping up. I'm a way off the service due date and searching online gives mixed advice. The oil levels are fine. I'm loathe to book an unnecessary trip to the dealer. Any words of wisdom? I've done just shy of 9k miles.

I've got a 19 plate Polo which said it needed an oil service 4 months into ownership. Took it to VW and they said that there's been a lot of similar cases and they think they aren't setting the electronic counters properly at the factory.

Take a month off and read the whole forum, especially the build threads :slow rofl:
Then take out a second mortgage :fast rofl:

Need help from all you experienced folk.
Tow bar an bike rack ( inc 1 ebike)
Insurance - where to start ?
Awning - good ones / ones to avoid
Any tricks on packing what’s needed.
Used to packing an used by a fixed bed caravan - feel its going to be a long learning curve !!!

Hi, welcome.

For the bike rack, it depends on whether you have a tailgate or barn doors. The VW rack is a good fit for tailgate vans. You can also go for a tow bar rack if you’ve decided on a tow bar.

There are a few threads on here about drive away awnings - it’s worth typing a few keywords in the search bar. I’ve got a Vango Kela and it’s good. Just need an awning rail on your van ideally and a drive away kit, which enables you to detach your van.

Insurance - depends on whether yours is converted now, or in the process of conversion. Adrian Flux and Safeguard seem popular. Some companies also cover you as you are converting. Again, discussed at length on here.

Good luck.

I have recently got an awning and use it for the first time. I got a smaller one, it has a main compartment and a between it and the van section there are slightly smaller ones and much larger ones. Things to consider.

After using it once you'll want an awning rail, the best ones seem to be £200 and up to £299 to have fixed. You can use the throw over straps, it's not that bad, but the rail is much better. I'm getting a rail on mine.

The awning is related to the packing. You're van tends to have three states:-

1. Driving state
2. Stationary state
3. Sleeping state

You're driving and stationary state may be similar depending how much stuff you have with you.

The stationary state relates to the awning as it's likely to be the biggest thing you've got to find a home for - which means it's the first thing you need to deal with in the stationary state (especially the sleeping state when depending on your conversation you may lose all the space behind the seat). This is especially true if you've used your awning to allow for more comfortable table and chairs.

This tends to mean you don't take your awaning on the off-chance you'll use it.You either take the awning with the intent of putting it up as soon as you're in place or not taking it at all. I tend to find if you're staying only a night in each place don't bother - but it all comes down to how many people, etc, length of stay.

Get a drive-away one, no idea if it's a choice, if it is, always a drive-away one. Mine inflates and I can get it up and down in 15-minutes.

Insurance I went with A-Plan. Since my van is new I also have gap insurance, I'd have to look them up.

As for packing - pack like you have to carry everything on your back and take everything out of its packaging and put it in special containers.
