What Have You Bought, But Not Yet Fitted or Used?

Eibach rear levelling springs from THQ and top and bottom rubbers in PU. I'm 60 now FFS and managed to knacker a tendon in my arm (I did my foot while jogging last year) at the gym so I'm waving some shekels at the excellent DubDocShop who'll slip them in for me over the Easter Holiday.

Bought a small dry powder extinguisher for the van.
Not fitted yet as unsure of best place to site it.
Any suggestions? Cab or living area?

So this was bought few weeks ago but I have not yet used it (or had my van back yet!!!) Hopefully someone can give some advice on best course of action?

I recently purchased a Skyline top pop roof. Rather than going to Skyline I went to one of the fitters from their list (Quattro Tech, which I would highly suggest to avoid!) , which seemed very respectable from reviews and all, paying few hundred quid more to get it fitted by them as I could not wait Skyline's waiting list. I have been very clear with them I wanted a white roof and also corrected them once as they mentioned a black roof in the quote and said I wanted a white one. Sadly at the end of the job they proudly sent pics of a black roof installed 🤬. I agreed to wait "a week, or so" to have the roof repainted professionally to their expense (keeping original warranties and all). It has now been more than two weeks and I am still waiting for the job to be completed.

Keeping my rage, fitter's incompetence and utter dissatisfaction with the services provided aside, how would you suggest I approach them to get a refund or anything since I was expecting the van with a white roof installed now almost 3 weeks ago? I literally lost 3 weeks of conversion because of this. Next time I will learn to go to the source, no matter what and wait if needed. They are being all "we are making it up by repainting at our expenses" crap of course, but I believe that does not make up for anything, just the least they should do now.

Any suggestions? Thanks, truly appreciated!

Hmm... I think this is a tricky one.

I understand your frustration, but they got it wrong and, by law, I believe they're allowed one attempt to put things right (which they've agreed to do).

Despite them not progressing the fix as quickly as you would like, I'm not sure what formal redress is available to you for such a delay (obviously, if weeks turned in to months, that would be a different matter as they'd then fail a test of reasonableness).

Personally, I'd pester them to distraction, asking daily for updates on progress and then, only once I'd got my van back, would I open a conversation with them regarding possible compensation for the delay (note that them re-painting the roof isn't compensation - that's merely them restoring your van to the end state that was contractually agreed).

When discussing compensation, I'd always advise keeping things civil and I'd be asking for something that was more expensive for to me to buy than it was expensive for them to provide - such as a service or product they can offer at cost. Hard cash compensation is likely to be much harder for them to agree to.

Whatever you do, good luck.

Sorry to hear of your experience, I can't add anything regarding claims and customer satisfaction but I can say it's surprising as we have used QT vanwerks for a lot of things on our van over the last few years and have had nothing but good experiences.

Thanks both for your replies, truly appreciated!

@TeeCeeJay will see what will be possible. I have managed to speak to someone who is Head of Operations and had a chance to explain over the phone better. As the conversation went that way I said I would find adequate to get compensation for the price difference between their service and the one from Skyline. They'll talk internally as it looks someone fed half information to the HoO and will let me know. Fingers crossed!

@Bav Indeed, they seemed to be very reputable. I was very clear from beginning I was very happy with the work despite being the wrong colour! Still was a considerable mistake and mainly the delay as I was hoping to get things cracking as time is key. I will be a father end of September and 2 weeks work on the van will help make sure it is (hopefully) finished before due date and do a small trip.

Good news, I will get back my van on Saturday 🎉
On the compensation side, looks like they agreed to either:
  1. get back the £300
  2. not get the £300 and have them swap wheels to new steel wheels taken from a new van with replacement bolts (mine are a bit rusty but just cosmetics)
  3. not get the £300 and pay £100 on top to fit 16” Clayton alloys from the Highline model again taken from a new van with replacement bolts and locking bolt per wheel
I see online the Clayton alloys sell for less (but they will also install them). However, I already have spent about £180 last month on repairing two wheels. Also considering I yet need to start the major bits of the van conversion I feel like getting back £300 is best. Will probably buy some wheel trims for £60 total to cover old wheels. Any thoughts?

Thanks

At least it looks like they're trying to do right by you. 👍

Take the cash or the steels, tell them I'll be round on Tuesday for the Clayton wheel bolt covers!
