What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Remove this horrible thing after constant abuse and moaning from the mrs about how bouncy it is.

That looks proper smart! Still jealous you have those cups holders.. I miss those so much!
cheers bud, although I think the picture is a bit flattering. It's nowhere near as good as the real comfort dash, but for £250 it's pretty good. The finish on the parts is very good, but the fit isn't quite perfect. I'll trade you my setup with cup holders for a full comfort dash any day!

You wouldn’t trade it for those cup holders I’ve got.. VWs idea of a springboard for any drinks in there! Slight bump and all the liquid flies up in all directions!!

I was going to make this comment as a joke, but the more I think about it the more it actually makes some sense...... You could always retrofit a dash top cup holder into the comfort dash in the same location as the standard dash. Might be a bit of pissing around to get it just right, but it could be done.

Quick wash, and tried the Sonic Sprint that @Loz and @Dellmassive have mentioned. Think I might have used too much, as I had to give the windows a hard wipe over when it had all dried.

Certainly beads up though.

Oh, and fixed my handbrake warning light issue:

Because I can never concentrate on only one thing, this project has been running concurrently with adjusting my B14s/ARBs but this time with total success :D
Although I did play with more off-the-wall options, such as the linear actuators, the answer was indeed an electrically operated ball valve as suggested by @Stay Frosty and @Dieseldonkey.

This requires a positive feed for each position (open and closed) as well as an earth, which wasn't a problem as I'd run multicore cable down to the waste outlet. It required a new SPDT switch to operate, and this time I opted for a 16mm one with blue illumination rather than 12mm, which took some modification of the switch blank to accomodate it. (Excuse the filthy seat, I'd been in and out alternating with moving the van and laying on the ground). View attachment 42629

The issue with flow speed was solved by going for a 1" ball valve, which actually had the same internal bore as the normal 3/4" pipe, so the adapter required either side didn't reduce the internal diameter. Amazing result too, I measured the flow of a 3/4 full tank with the old manual tap to be 11 sec/litre - with the new electrically operated version it's 5.5 sec/litre, so the tank can be emptied in half the time. Might seem a waste of time to some people but little mods like this interest me.
Anyway here it is in full flow, nice to solve a problem with total success :)

A revisit after 18 months. I notice a constant clicking sound from the valve when it’s open now, which wasn’t there before. Is it likely the valve is on its way out? It’s only ever open for about a minute at a time when dumping grey water at a drain and has probably been operated no more than 15-20 times since fitting it.
