What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Installed the Auto-Vox V5pro Dashcam / Reverse Camera.

I've just replaced my factory mirror with the AV mirror with bracket. Looks good. Unfortunately the mini connectors are low profile. So I will send off for ones that fit.

The fuses that come with the mirror camera are 5amp. My previous dashcam are 20A. Is this right?

Looks like you fitted your reverse camera where the factory reverse cam is located. Did you have a factory reverse camera before and how are you finding the location you fitted yours? I can't see it going anywhere else.

Have been tinkering away and decided to fit the dash thats been sat on the side for a while.

Pulled the stock H/L one out and its certainly showing that it spent a fair bit of time in stables in a previous life (needs a clean behind here, lots of dust)

I didn't like the way the original dash PCB was sitting in the LCD housing (it was twisting the PCB when tightened) so made some better fixings for it (all of 10 mins in onshape) and a few iterations later have a perfectly supported PCB with no fouling or twisting also protecting it from the screws themselves.
Raises the PCB by 1.5mm and locates properly in the PCB mounting holes.

Spent waaaaaaaaaaay to much time tinkering in the new dash menus (vs working). Lots of oooooooooooooo going on!

Just need to run a quick scan post install to check all is well and re-fit all the trim :)

Ok, I couldn't resist it, still need to do a scan and reprogram some adaptations it's reset but.....
It's soooo pretty!

Really should have done this sooner!
It's been sat on the side for the last 2 and a bit months!

Aside from randomly calling people by accident while playing with the settings (swiftly disabled Bluetooth after placing 3 calls) the adaptations that were reset were (ones i have noticed so far at least):
  • Door locking / unlocking - Can be reprogramed via the new dash
  • Courtesy entry/exit headlights- Can be reprogramed via the new dash
  • No indicator flash on lock / unlock - cant be done via the dash but can enable lock / unlock alarm chirp
If in any doubt of your own ability definitely have a word with @antony.charnley who can either supply fit for you (I have no affiliation but have been watching the work he is doing and is top notch).

Keep us updated with your trip as I'm getting things in motion , passports, E11s, dog health certificate etc for next years trip hopefully 10 - 12 weeks France down to Benidorm.
AHC is the biggest pain and unnecessary expense, once your out there go and get a spainish passport for the mutt  €70ish euros and lasts 3 years .
AHC is £200 ish and lasts 4 months .

Thanks for the shout out @MrG glad all out nattering helped out! Drop me a line if you are left scratching your head for any length of time. I think I've got the jump on most of it now.

Fitting another 5.1 tomorrow which is a bit more involved than the T6, but honing the fitment so that it's show worthy is the next job. 5.1 has a bonded LCD same as startline does, so we hot melt a mount to the board to retain that, but the real challenge is blocking light bleed as the onboard LED's illuminate the slightest gap around what is already a quite poor tolerance fit by VW. I have a nice selection of closed cell adhesive tapes to make a nice neat shadow box style seal behind to get the finish spot on. I will share my learnings soon, most considerations should start with.. I wonder if they based this design on a left hand drive vehicle, then logically work back from there..

@antony.charnley The first thing that popped into my head here.....
Tape is the obvious simple solution but as a step up/more elegant "manufactured" solution (bearing in mind I haven't looked at the T5 dash PCB so not sure if possible), would something like a thin vacuum formed piece of black plastic to seat over the original PCB solve the issue? Obviously this would be preferred if made along with the dash in China but very easy and cheap to produce here too (just look at 'vanshades')

Finally said goodbye to my Sargent EC155 and old AGM LB and hello to my Frogstar Drift LiPO4 305amp battery.

Work in progress but cut a big hole in the wardrobe base to drop the battery in. Fits perfectly.

Will make a matching lid and figure out how to connect all the necessary wires that fed in and out the Sargent.

Wardrobe finally becomes a proper wardrobe and underneath the drivers seat I will store the jack etc.

My solution, stick with the hot melt blob for the led to board mount. Then either switch to black sticks, or use my daughters little 3d print pen. Loaded with black ABS, It's usb powered, very accurate, to block the led side lights faces out. I will play with both ideas to see which one I like best. Simple and reversible wins. There is also a black electrical 'gum' that I have used to reconstruct sub amplifier components and prevent cable vibrations internally, that would do an excellent job too.

Trying to dry out load mat in rear of my Kombi. As it looks as though I’m not able to post a new topic until I’ve joined vip another story ! I’m putting this on here hopefully not breaking any rules? I got my load mat back form the dealers yesterday as it looks as though it had been jet washed,it was they’re lease van unbeknown to me until I started to line the rear panels and found soaking wet mat and sand under it.(later found out a builder had it). They had it over a week and told me it was dry, having tested it with a damp meter it still read 25%moisture.On closer inspection I.e. making a small cut it the underneath lining and placing a bit of tissue on it it came out soaked. I’ve taken pics and sent it to them just waiting a reply as imho it isn’t going to dry being enclosed and requested a new mat.Just waiting they’re reply.
Pic added after they had it for over a week “drying it”IMG_0358.jpeg
