What sources dish out speeding tickets?

Mobile speed camera yesterday, but i was ok. They were cleverly after some folks doing 34. Very clever placements. Anyway, it got me thinking: what are the ways of being caught? I mean, there is the mobile camera out the back of a chevron dazzle camourflaged van. That is one type of camera which can catch you. Then there are the usual fixed cameras, the yellow boxes on posts. But then is that it? Or what about those other things on posts that look like loudspeakers? What about the speed sign with the happy or unhappy face? I mean, could i never pass a mobile camera or fixed camera, or average speed camera set up, and still get a ticket, and if so then what could be the source of that? In short, what else should i watch out for which could nab me if i was going a momentary touch over, which is all i ever do if i speed. Maybe an unmarked car behind me or towards me?

I got one from a traffic van a few years ago 33 in a 30 zone. Had to go on a speed course cost me £300. You can pick one up anywhere these days. Most traffic cars have them on board and now they can get you going both ways towards the and away plus they can get you in the dark. Fixed mobile hand held and now lots on the new motorway gantry speed warning on the front for each lane and a camera on the back. North Yorkshire now have a zero tolerance going 1 mph over ca-Ching ticket. Also the reg number and speed plus photo are put onto a chip so now there is no chance of I'll let you off this time.

Good God! What is it coming to. 1 mph over seems like madness. It may well have some method in it, like perhaps preparing the way for electric driverless cars and lorries. But thanks for the warning. I will be even more careful. It is so easy to just momentarily nudge over by a couple mph.

It's all about the government cutbacks.. We all pay, especially the motorist! Fines generate revenue, so that will make up the short fall.. Speeding is easier than stopping people with defective lights, as that means people have to do some work! And which is more dangerous? looking like a motorbike hugging the inside as a car has no off side light visible, or 2 to 3 mph over?

Dave, you're right about that, I think. I say 'I think' because i don't feel like i know anything for sure anymore. I mean, those plastic springy fivers. And then with the rest of the notes in plastic, well it will just make carrying cash problematic, which clearly is something to do with psychologically weening us off using cash. Everything seems to have an ostensible reason, or maybe it doesn't, I just don't know anything anymore. But i've had dossers in my allotment shed and the cops don't want to know at all, though they know them...druggies. Too far down the pecking order. Yes, cuts and work to rule. It is all changing. It seems like a dream does living in Britain, all topsy-turvy. kinda scary, like the witchfinder general is coming.......hey, what a good film that is. Christopher lee, I think. But it does terrify.....oops better not use that word, the algarythmn will bit prickking its ears up its ears up. What a world. We're all doooooomed. :)

The M5 at Cribbs Causeway Bristol is now one of the 'Managed Motorways' which shows the variable speed limit on signs above the road i.e. 30,40,50 and so on with speed cams on the back, but what a lot of people don't realise is that the cameras still work when the signs are off and the limit is 70 which it doesn't show, obviously I stick to the speed limit but it's quite entertaining looking in the mirror to see if the speeding cars going past get flashed.

Followed a Balfour Beaty one about a year ago. Guess its was used for site traffic in the road works.

He was doing 65 in a 50 limit through the roadworks.

Unfortunatly dash cam wasnt recording at the time.

What astounds me is travelling on motorways where there are road works and the yellow Specs cameras are doing the average check. I always stick the cruise control on to the required 50mph, but lorries just come tanking past you not lifting from their speed limiter's. Clearly they are not getting ticketed, otherwise it'd get out and all lorries would be slowing down. Professional drivers???

Since as far back as I can remember a village near me has had a thirty limit. This week I rolled into its outskirts, straight down the barrel of a police bike with camera. I was doing 30. I know this, cos my speeding ticket said so, in a 20.... when did that happen? I have no defence. But, being slightly cynical, bloody good way of raising revenue ☹️

Probably only just changed then, hence why it is being vociferously policed, or maybe that's my cynicism. However, at the end of the day I am sure there is a good safety reason for the reduction in the speed limit, and this is to keep kiddies safe on their way out of school or something.

I will state that I fully support enforcement of lower speed limits outside e.g. Schools, pedestrian crossings, and hospitals, but this was on the edge of the village no where near the school which is some distance from the main road. Peeved.

There's a stretch in Plymouth that's always been a 40 but part of it is now 30 with average speed cameras: drove through it yesterday and you cannot tell where it changes; I swear they do it to catch people out.

Don't get into the habit of thinking you don't get tickets when going through road works. When they were working on the M62 I must have got requests for a report on why I was exceeding the 50mph limit hundreds of times. Thank god for blue lights. Every time we went over 50mph we got picked up on and letters were sent to HQ then to me as Station Officer to sort out. You would think they would have some sort of tech these days to tell the cameras it's an ambulance on an emergency.

Oh I am definitely not in the habit of ignoring them, as I said I engage the cruise control and make sure. My point was the bloody lorries that don't lift off the gas.
I have the same problem as you then with the speeding tickets when responding in my un-marked car. Doesn't matter that is has blue lights all round it, still get the NIP through that you then have to go back through the log book to ascertain what call you were on at the time so you can provide all of the details to get it cancelled. There is never a problem getting it cancelled but it is just the time it takes out of your day. I started noting down the details and locations of those triggered (well the ones that flash). However don't go out quite as much now since latest promotion.

I know how you feel. I had to sort out the details for all the staff on station as well as my own still I'm out of all that now that I've retired. It's the easy life now for me now never go over the speed limits and my wife even tells me to stop going so slow and speed up. I tell her I've had all the fast driving I'll ever need.

That's why I drive so slowly in my van. Get my fix when the blue's get switched on, and start 'making progress'. BooYa.

Yes to that. I must admit I still miss that buzzzzzzz. But more the crew I worked with. Takes me back when I have to pull over and see them flash by.

Feel for your guys, they are getting a hammering at the moment, and from what I see suffering a bit from lack of experience. Our guys do a lot of training with their new recruits, and we are now doing more and more co-res, including every single truck (co-res or not) will now roll out the door for cardiac arrest due to them all having defibs on board.

There should be a sign warning you it is a 20 zone plus sometimes it only comes into affect when the kids go to & from school. Might be worth looking to see if there is a sign. You could argue the toss

Drove the same way today, 30 signs and road paint, round the corner and small 20 and on road.....still my fault but still peeved. 30 limit had been ok for decades, parked cars in centre has always kept speeds to less than 20! Still peeved
