Calling all Variotech 3000 owners/experts/anyone up for chiming in!

Does anyone know the purpose of this hooked portion of the release arm on the Variotech 3000?

I think it is interlocking with the seat base, so the seat base can’t go up until you manually pull it out forwards, and so there is no way the seat back can release with passengers on the seat base.

I don't think that there's anything on the base that engages with that bit. You can lift the base up without moving the lever. It's a puzzle is that one. I'll have a look at ours when I get chance.

That block on the side does stop the lever releasing with the seat down, but I’ve just had a look at mine and it engages the top of the circled part. Maybe there is a secret reverse recliner feature?

Whilst we're on the top of Variotech 3000s - How much play (if any) is there in the upright portion of everyone's seat when it's all folded away in 'seat' mode

There's definitely some back and forth in mine. Maybe as much as 5 mm I'd say.

I've double checked the release leaver and its all the way home. Can't engage any more (apparently a fix for this issue)

Curious to know if others have play in as well or absolutely lock in place?

Mine is solid.

Ours is rock solid

UPDATE!!

So after going almost crazy over this I decided to reach out to someone in the know.

Sam at CMC Campers, who specifically deal in Remio kit, was very kind to spend half an hour on the phone to me about both of these issues.

Firstly.... The hook...

Apparently, it doesn't do ANYTHING. He said its been there on all Variotechs for as long as he's been in the business (several decades) and even Reimo themselves don't know what it's for. He suspects originally it was an older part from a previous Remio product that they repurposed for the Variotech when it was first introduced. It's original purpose, probably an extra locking mechanism, is not applicable to the Variotech 3000.

Despite it not doing anything, to change the design would be to change the machining of the manufacturing process. So they just kept it.

A classic "if it ain't broke... Dont fix it model"

Secondly... The 5mm of movement in the seat upright.

After you gents kindly confirmed that you had suitably solid and stable seat uprights, I also queried this with Sam.

He drew my attention to a metal locking nut that is bolted to the frame of the bed. This nut, about 10mm across, is bolted off center to the bed frame, so it sort of acts like a Cam.

The position of this cam dictates the size of the locking space the bed has when upright. It effectively acts as an adjustable pinch point.

By using a socket set and adjusting this cam about 45° anticlockwise (yes anticlockwise) it closes the locking gap by a tiny fraction.

Hey presto - absolutely rock solid seat upright!!

This has been bothering me for 2 years!!!

Thanks for that info @Deviant Tubs...I checked mine today and it does have some slight movement ,which I had not actually noticed before, so will be adjusting as per your pictures! Problem is i now seem to be grasping everything else in the van to see if it moves!
As for the hook, yes it does look like it was from a previous life.

Good find, thanks for sharing.

I wonder if it's something you can get hold of as a spare part?
I've had some dealings with John from Westward Leisure in the past when I had issues with my seat.

If I recall correctly he's Reimo's official licensed importer. Might be worth asking him about it and poss getting it as a spare part
