When will prices come back down?

So in very early 2020 I got my 2018 150 DSG Highline panel Van, 9000 miles, in a bit of Covid Confusion the agreed price didn’t include VAT, so a win there...

converted to Kombi, swivel seats, leisure battery etc, sourced all sorts of bits and pieces, Van is exactly what I want...got offered £35,000 out the blue from a matey in a car park!! I can never tell my wife....

Sell it and buy a Transit.

Buy it back next year! You'll have two vans and a wad of cash :think smile bounce:

Just before Xmas, a chap in a brand spanking new T6.1 in Morrisons' carpark offered me silly money ( or so I thought) for my 16 plate Kombi. That set me off researching prices, which has lead me to ordering a new one. Now, it's subject to the stupid delays of VW, and I won't see it for another 6 months, but, even putting another 5k miles on it at least, I won't loose too much when I come to sell, I hope!

I think when the shops and dealerships open the prices on used will strengthen more. As people actually get out to see vehicles. Sales have been good but enquires are definitely down - after lockdown 1 it went bonkers and I’m expecting the same from the next couple of weeks.

Barely used my van for a year now and would consider selling. what method are you usually considering to use for a sale? Selling any item worth over 30k privately makes me feel very nervous and I wouldn’t be interested in a trade in. Thanks in advance

Autotrader, and a transfer into my bank before I let the vehicle leave. Faster payments take up to 2 hours so it's not long to wait. Wouldn't do anything other.

I was worried about faster payment as for some banks they are actually reversible. Only chaps transfer from what I could research was truly one way payment. Then it put me off the whole private sale thing.

First I have heard of that, hence why banks are taking payments so seriously as they are part liable if you make an erroneous payment. I checked it wasn't before I did mine last week, so definitely not with HSBC anyway.

I think there’s a bit of dare I say post Covid madness about, I just advertised a house for rent and got 60 applicants, just over a year ago I had 3 in the same period on the same house.
Crazy

Just transfer the money to another of your accounts as soon as it lands.

Some banks have a limit on the amount transferred out per day so sometimes a mix of cash and bank transfer is required. I think mine is 25k per day for instance.

Rich sod! I’m limited to £20k!!!

I bought my van in December. I travelled from London to Wales to view it and went down again the following week to collect it. The deal was I was to pay off the finance and transfer a cash amount to the seller. On pick up day I transferred to the finance company before I left home thinking that would clear by the time I got to Wales and on arrival did a bank transfer to the seller's bank account - multiple transfers - nothing over £10K. We twiddled our fingers for a while and whilst the money had gone from my account it didn't arrive in his. Eventually I called my bank who confirmed on speakerphone the money had left my account and I couldn't get it back and it must be just delayed on its way. The seller kindly agreed to let me take van and on way home I had a call from Nationwide checking that I wanted to go ahead with payment. They thought I was being ripped off as sort code of receiving bank was so far from my home address. Obvs I asked them to please pay the guy his money. There had to be little bit of trust both ways. Thankfully all worked out and I am the owner of a beautiful T6 Indium Grey soon to become swamper

Puppies now there is another thing.
10yrs ago I bought a black lab for £400
sadly she passed away last November (still gutted and miss her)
now 2k plus for the same bread. Madness.

Lost our Welsh sheep dog of 15 years in Jan. Cost me £60 from a farm and got a cup of tea and a bit of cake into the bargain. She was the best damn Dog anyone could have. Just bought a new Pup from a farm...£700 no tea or cake.

Sorry to hear about your loss, but what a difference in a few years. Sign of the times. 15 years is a blooming good innings - take some solace from that

Supply is the issue right from the factory having a knock on effect all the way down mot freeing up second hand market.

Worldwide shortage not semi conductors or 'chips' so looks like less supply again, i.e. higher prices

Just out of curiosity I decided to see what my T32 kombi would be worth with 10500 miles on the clock with webuyanyvan.com
I've lost £1500 in 17 months of ownership!!
It's fair to say that it's going to be low end of the price scale too......... these things don't half hold their value!!!!
