Where do you keep your security key?

Hi all,

Just wondering where you fellow disklok / stoplock / pedal lock etc owners keep the key?

Although practical it doesn't seem to make sense to me to keep it on the set of keys, in case the whole bunch get nicked.

Is stashing it somewhere in the van a bad idea?

I'm not surprised. The Disklok can be put on and locked without a key. I use mine across a number of cars, and have several times come close to locking it on a car with the key hundreds of miles away.

Simples. Leave it under the floor mat like your front door key to the house. No one looks under there anyway and it’s easy to remember where you left it.

Is leaving your credit card details in your van a good idea? That's probably enough on the subject. But, as you ask, I leave mine on my keyring. It's a bit faffy to sort of have loads of hiding places for your keys. The best bet is to get a Ghost immobiliser and forget about the fear that someone might crack your disklock.

I have my stoplock key on a separate "keyring" with some other things, basically it's a hanging strap with the stoplock key, strongbox key and a trolly token but also with a extra clip that means I can clip it to the van key.

Normally they just live in the van door pocket as I don't religiously use the stoplock but it's handy for shopping without having stuff rattling around your knees.

If I leave the van on the drive for a bit I can store them separately from the van keys in the house (we have a couple of locations for non everyday keys)

If I park up somewhere for the day and use the stoplock most times I lock the second keyring in the glove box but if I want to take it with me I can clip them together into one thing so I don't lose one half.

If I feel the risk is higher than these simple deterrents I have another strategy, I don't park there...

IMO the purpose of a Disklok (or similar) is to encourage a would-be opportunist thief to think again - it's not to prevent theft by a determined professional who's stealing to order. That being the case, having my key on the van keyring is perfectly adequate and my Meta Trak, with remote deadlocking and monitored tracking, will frustrate those who would seek to steal the keys.

It's mostly deterrent theatre, I have mine on a separate keyring mostly because I have an absolute hate of a chain of jangly keys ringing away hanging off the steering column.

The only reason I have any keyring at all on the van key is it needs something to hang up in the key cabinet

Same as above, my Disklok key lives on the same bunch of keys as the van keys, mainly because the Disklok is a visible deterrent, but also so that I don’t put the Disklok on and then remember that the key is on another key ring which happens to be 200 miles away because I forgot to take them with me.
My main anti theft device is a Ghost.

As well as the jangling another reason for not having too many keys on the ignition key ring. I used to keep all the various keys on the one key ring, vehicle, wheel lock, pedal lock , roof box, hitch lock, bike locks, board locks etc etc.
One fine morning going to leave a campsite in Italy I went to start the van and was left with the metal key bit in the ignition barrel and everything else in my hand. The vehicle key had snapped next to the flip out pivot.
Fortunately there was a bit of metal protruding from the ignition so I could retrieve the broken bit and we always carry the spare vehicle key, which ( once I had removed all the other spare lock keys ) we used until we returned home and got a replacement.
