Wind out awnings

I used foam pipe insulation, the stuff you buy to insulate central heating pipes.
The split in the length of insulation wraps around the awning bottom corner and it fillS the gap perfectly, is secure and is invisible.
OK a bit of a ‘heath Robinson’ but costs pennies.
Got any pics for that fix please Nigel W

Thanks for all you replies.
Now thinking of a Reimo multi rail which I can attach my drive away awning to. Also want to get the Thule wind out awning. Basically, if I have a wind out Thule awning attached to the Reimo multi rail, can I still use the rail to attach my drive away awning?
Many thanks.

So we have a reimo multirail and Reimo pop top and was thinking of a wind out awning and thought I would have to remove the multirail to fit it, reading the above it sounds like I can mount one on the multirail - can someone confirm this and also give me an idea of compatibility with the poptop as I guess that the top of the bracket will sit under the pop top seal?

I'd like to know the answer to this also. I'm thinking of having the reimo multirail installed on my T6 rather than a wind out awning (the large fixed mounting bracket for me just makes the van look bulky) but I can't imagine reimo multirail to drive away awning to wind out...? puzzled

we have a dometic wind out, comes with the built in C-channel for kadar strip/driveaway kit. surprisingly it's 6mm when most are 4mm. It's 2.6m van length and 2m out - we have SWB.
I've bought 3m of kadar strip (about £13 delivered) that I'm sewing onto a tarp to, to do as per the earlier photo. I've also bought 4 ( only need 3 but cheaper in pairs) adjustable canopy poles so can make the tarp come out further instead of straight down, that paired with wind break should be good for shorter trips

That's a good idea that and like the sound of utilising a tarp for more than one application. I have a tarp (recently used at the weekend in fact) also but hadn't thought about the kadar strip addition...cheers

Done the same 28mm insulation pipe fitted from the bottom of the wind out, no water comes through take them out when leaving, all for £1.80 only takes a couple of minutes to fit, when u thinking is going to rain , tried the fiamma rain thing , not wide enough for the Dometic pw , and the Dometic rain thing is the same size of the fiamma, u have to buy 2 and then stick them together, to expensive and to much to do , so for me pipe insulation only

I have a Fiamma F45 on my caravan and never use it so was thinking of moving it to my T6 where it would definitely be utilised.
T6 already has a roof rack which is needed for surfboards etc.
Was thinking of fitting a reimo type rail. Probably stitches + steel version to mount it on.
Am being told that I need to use J19523 bracket for T6 but this involves drilling more holes into the roof.
The J19524 to just attach to the reimo rail, which would be better, but I being told that this only works with a T4.
Any clues?

Check out this thread. It has a few pictures of wind out with roof rails.

Thank you.
I saw one mounted like this at the weekend.
Looks like a good solution to me, as I could easily swap from one side to the other if necessary.
Sadly no owner to quiz.
Not sure who's brackets these are.

I managed to find the attached Thule adaptors document. There is one in there for a T5/6 that attaches to a Brandrup rail without drilling holes in the van. There are two or three other options as well so might be worth a look

Thank you Big Mac.
assuming that Thule and Fiamma awnings use the same brackets a 307886 for VW T5/T6 Brandrup Rail looks just the job.

A quick question for you Nigel if I may.
Do you have to remove the pipe insulation when driving your van, or is it wedged in firmly enough to be able to leave it permanently?
Thanks.

They do wedge in tightly enough to stay put as they wrap themselves around the corner, however because I am a worrier and it only takes seconds to push them in I do tend to remove and keep them in my windbreak bag only fitting if it looks like rain.
