Winter wheels on a shoe string

I recently acquired a set of steels in exchange for a set of side bars, I think the lad just wanted them out of his shed and being a van parts magpie I couldn’t resist. Anyway they were well used but had decent tread on the tyres. All but one with odd wear and a puncture. I felt like this was the perfect opportunity to fit the steels and get my good wheels off to the paint shop. But being a massive ponce I couldn’t fit them in their current condition.. so here is a thread on the journey of tired steels to usable winter wheels. Feel free to switch of when you become bored..

First things first a good degrease and rub down. I also removed the balance weights which I’ll get the tyre shop to replace on the back so I have a clean wheel face

Ok so paint time. I’ve had the wheels to the tyre shop for a replacement tyre to the puncture and rebalance with weights on the rear. I’ve had them pop the bead for now so I can paint the lip properly. Masked off and on with the spraying

I do like the look of the “pepper pot” steels - a great wheel to refurb. What size are they?

Not looking too shabby after two coats. Off to the tyre shop tomorrow once the paint had cured properly to get the tyres popped back on the rim and inflated

they are just standard 16’’ I have some spacers when I fit them. Otherwise they look lost in the arches
