Check out mine in the for sale section
Wow that’s great to hear but so very odd that mine is not accepting audio ... I will try testing a few more cables and settings but I think I’ve eliminated every option other than cable and the one I’m using is brand new Apple .. il wondering if someone’s tinkered with the usb before I bought the van now ..I have Composite Media and Iphone 11. Mine transfers audio through usb so it does work. It also did with my old iPhone 6 as I used to turn BT off most days to help improve battery life and never remembered to turn it on when I got back into the van. I also use an Anker cable rather than Apple but I know some third party cables will not work
No of course not I’m just checking that a new head unit is going to eliminate these problems before I spend a grand and end up no further forward than having a bigger screen on my dashboard ! hopefully Apple car play will eliminate all this bull ...If you’ve eliminated everything else then yes it looks like you have a faulty head unit. But does it matter if you’re looking at changing it anyway?
Just a quick one .. if you have your phone connected via Bluetooth and the usb cable and playing some audio ( over BT)and then select usb as source it just shows your music ? Mine says device is not supported but the phone is charging ok .It says the same thing if I turn off Bluetooth .I have Composite Media and Iphone 11. Mine transfers audio through usb so it does work. As the OP is about CarPlay my response was relating to transferring audio through cable which plays through CarPlay on my Composite Media head unit. I may have misunderstood your original query as I thought you had CarPlay alreadyWow that’s great to hear but so very odd that mine is not accepting audio ... Ok I think this is the problem I’m still pretty sure I’m correct and this head unit does not allow my iPhone X to play audio through the usb socket ... I will try a memory stick with some audio files on it nextAs the OP is about CarPlay my response was relating to transferring audio through cable which plays through CarPlay on my Composite Media head unit. sorry , composition colour (pq)..... is the name of the head unit.. strange name but its the bog-standard unit that comes with the t6Ah ha !! So I’m barking up the wrong tree again ...my head unit is called composite colour and has no apple car play
Good idea, now you have eliminated that the cable/phone is not the culprit then next stage is to check the USB and using a ‘stick’ will hopefully tell you. Remember to use a stick under 32gig and formatted correctly. Whilst you are it go into the settings and make a note of the firmware version so you can check if it is the latest version.Ok I think this is the problem I’m still pretty sure I’m correct and this head unit does not allow my iPhone X to play audio through the usb socket ... Same head unit as mine and you can have CarPlay enabled on it but ir costs - I ticked it as an option when I ordered the van. £245 from memory, may be a cheaper option than head unit upgrade and VW could check out the usb for you whilst it’s with themsorry , composition colour (pq)..... is the name of the head unit.. strange name but its the bog-standard unit that comes with the t6
that's very odd indeed. it defo does not work with mine. It's the same headunit I had (though now changed), USB audio from the iPhone XS worked fine (no Carplay)
yep memory stick works fine plugged into the usb socket but phone defo does notGood idea, now you have eliminated that the cable/phone is not the culprit then next stage is to check the USB and using a ‘stick’ will hopefully tell you. ah well, it's too late now as I've gone and ordered the Kenwood 9190... oopsy.. That better work as expected !!!Same head unit as mine and you can have CarPlay enabled on it but ir costs - I ticked it as an option when I ordered the van. £245 from memory, may be a cheaper option than head unit upgrade and VW could check out the usb for you whilst it’s with them
So a year on and I'm finally getting round to sorting this "temporary" holding arrangement. After all my escapades in modifying and using the RCD330+, I decided to do what I always end up doing and start a new project with only a week to go til my annual fortnight touring Europe. So I've ordered a Kenwood 8019. (I shied away from the undoubtedly better 9190 due to budget). One of the things it has is wireless Carplay, something I've always argued as being pointless as I'd much prefer my phone was charging while I'm driving anyway. Soooo I thought.... ok, if it's got it I'll use it, so why not make a wireless charging station in the dash cubby where I currently plug my phone in (the one above the ash tray).
So ordered the cheapest wireless charging pad I could find on Amazon, which arrived today. It's blue but the colour isn't important as it's getting ripped apart and blue was on offer at £12. Arrived today so as soon as I got home I started

Rip the soft backing mat off and there are 5 screws holding it together, then crack apart with a spudger

Then yank out the gubbins you need.

Experimenting showed that you've got to be quite precise about where you place the phone to activate the charger, so I cut some pieces of foam so that all I need to do is just put the phone in and it will be held in the right place. The charging coil is held to the back of the rubber mat by hotglue. I then cut the back end of the mat that you can't see too, and glued small blocks of foam underneath at the back, to allow for the size of the micro USB plug. I hot glued the plug in place rather than cut and solder it to the circuit board as the contacts are very small and I'm lazy. You probably don't even need to do this as micro USB is quite a grippy connection, but belt and braces. Then I cut the USB lead and soldered the red and black wires to the output of a 15W 12v > 5v converter that I already had a few of (I paid about a tenner each for decent quality ones). This is just a prototype and assuming all goes well I'll replace the foam with neater cut black foam for a better look.

The other end of the buck converter is then fed by a 12v feed from the fuse box, protected by a 5A fuse.
So that's that, c£22 gets me wireless charging when I put my phone in the cubby, already for wireless Carplay when my Kenwood arrives.
Here's a video of it working

This is the (nearly) finished article. In the end I decided to keep the rubber mat in place and the phone holder will go on top of it, replacing those janky bits of glued on foam.

I was going to cover it in black fabric, but in the end I decided to order some black rubberised spray paint to sort of blend it in and give a bit of grip. I'll put pics of it in situ when it's finished.
It kept crashing at inopportune moments and I was going round Europe for a couple of weeks so didn't want to risk it not working while I was away. Why did you change from the VW radio?
