Fixed solar upgrade. Flexi or rigid?

After 2failed flexi panels, I went for rigid. My next van will have rigid panels from the get go. https://www.t6forum.com/threads/another-failed-solar-panel.29684/

You need to get a meter across the solar terminals during daylight. Chances are it's a failed panel.

    Ecoflow Flexi panels for pop-top

After 2 failed flexi panels, I went rigid (ooer matron) Would it not be possible to mount rigid panels so that they are "underslung" from the C rails so that the panels sit flush with the top of the rails. We have a 30mm lift kit on the suspension & can still squeeze under a 2.1m barrier...

    Interesting solar panel

Shading has always been a big issue in the solar panel world. The cells in an individual panel are in a configuration where several rows of cells are arranged in series & then these clusters are arranged in parallel. If one of the series cells in a cluster is shaded or fails, it brings down the...

    Another failed solar panel

After a second flexi solar panel failure, I'm going for a rigid type in the hope that it's a last time fit & forget job. The first flexi to fail was a generic chinese one factory fitted to the poptop by Reimo, that lasted around 2 years. The second one, which has just failed was a Carbest...

    Failed Solar Panel Advice

It’s not the diodes. It’s cracking of the bus bars as @Dellmassive has highlighted. Very common problem.

    Semi Flexi Solar-panel failures?

There have been a few folks struggling to get support from Renogy recently. I've clicked on your link & can't find a UK contact or address anywhere on the webpage. Caveat Emptor

    Solar panel debonded

As I see it, having gone through 2 flexible panels & now on a rigid panel, you can either have stealthy & cool, or functional. Personally, considering the ball ache of having had 2 panels fail in service & the PITA of swapping them out, I'm, sticking with functional. I think we're deluding...

    Solar panel failed

Join the club, loads of failed panel stories on the forum. I’m on my 3rd. The first 2 failed & were semi flexible bonded ones like yours. The first one was removed using the cheese wire method. I then had the next one bonded on top of a piece of vinyl wrap in anticipation that this would fail...

    lost with solar panel options

That panel looks very much like The factory fitted one that came with my Reimo roof. It lasted 18months before it failed. The replacement Carbest panel lasted 2 years before that too failed. I’m now on panel 3 which is a rigid panel. Re. MppT controller, I wouldn’t fit anything but a Victron.

Just bought a Reimo Poptop - Solar panel?!

I'm on my 3rd solar panel on my Reimo Easyfit. The first one was the factory fitted option by Reimo, this was an un-branded chinese POS that lasted 18 months. The second one was a Carbest supplied by Reimo as a warranty replacement for the original one. That lasted a couple of years, both of...

Faulty solar panel or MPPT controller?

Classic failure. Both of my previous flexi panels failed in exactly the same way. Fine on a morning when cold, as soon as they warm up, nada! It's the difference in expansion between the panel & the substrate i.e. van roof. This is why manufacturers are now quite specific in how the panels...
