no, unless you get a gizmo that will trickle charge the starter, from the leisurebattery.
or
you can use one charger to charge the starter battery, to the point that it turns on your dc-dc charger to charge the leisure setup - but you need a large charger and its a faily waistful way of doing...
My Sargent EC155 isn't charging the Fogstar Lithium battery. I've checked the 15amp charger fuse on the Sargent and all the switches are up on the breaker. Read another post on here that says probably easier to install a direct charge solution as, the charger function of the Sargent is...
Hello,
Anyone able to provide an explanation for this?
Van was at the repair garage for 2 weeks and during this time the leisurebattery ran out - understandable as I had two trackers, WiFi router and a camera running and it was parked under trees so no solar!
When I picked up the van and...
Got a few pics?
The ctek maybe a DC-DC charger for engine charge?
The Sargent has a basic 12.8vdc PSU that's powered from the EHU. (They call it a charger, but it's just a basic PSU)
So well assume your rear led lights are fed from that Sargent.
And when the EHU power isnt available the...
Ok. So you have a couple of options. The simplest option is to buy a good quality mains battery charger, e.g a Victron Bluesmart IP22 15A (other battery chargers are available) and plug it into one of your mains sockets & connect it to the leisurebattery when you’re on EHU. The other option is...
Hello,
Situation as is:
- VW T6.1 California 2020
- 2 solar panels connected with Victron MPPT
- victron DC/DC (ditched the 'smart' VW relay)
- Ablemail trickle charger for the starter battery
Considering to be situation:
- 2 x 100Ah Lifepo4 batteries
Concerns/Questions:
- Can I connect the...
Advantages to both. Multiple output charger is more compact but only works on EHU. The Ablemail will trickle charge the starter battery regardless of the source of charge on the leisurebattery.
If space is tight and you'll mostly be on EHU go for the multi output charger.
If you want to be...
I have a 4 month old Westfalia Club Joker with x 2 leisure batteries as per Westfalia spec ie 1 x 70Ah and the additional one at 100Ah.
When using habitation electrics, only the former shows any drop in voltage eg from 12.4v to 11.4v whilst the latter stays at 12.6v.
I expected that batteries...
the vw coolant is a pink colour.
any water leak needs urgent attention, overheating will knacker the head - so shouldn't ne driven.
have you got VW Assist? - call out the silver van guys? - they can get you looked in quick.
+++++++++
as for charging, yes the EHU only charges the LB,
you...
Currently I have it plugged it in via EHU using mains power from the house so fingers crossed it’s charging. I checked and everything is working as it should - fridge, lights etc - but I’ve turned them all off in the hope that the EHU power will be focused on recharging the leisurebattery. Time...
The EHU route will only work to maintain the starter battery if it is configured to do so, either with a dedicated mains charger or by some form of battery to battery charged (DC-DC capability or separate trickle charger)
If you want to get as much useful energy from your power bank into just...
After all the good advice on here I ran a wire from my starter battery through to under my drivers seat where I fitted the https://www.amazon.co.uk/Victron-Energy-Blue-Smart-Charger/dp/B081D14SSD/
When I installed my EHU I ran a socket on its own MSB from the consumer unit to under the drivers...
Yeah we bought the van and I'm sure the guy built it himself. The initial electrics weren't correct and the starter battery was being drained by the leisurebattery when we were stopped. It was checked by an auto electrician and the starter is charger then the leisurebattery through the...
If you’ve got a T6.1, the low rate of charge is most probably because of the ‘smart’ alternators that are fitted to Euro 5 and Euro 6 compliant vehicles such as T6 and T6.1 Transporters. As I understand, you’ll never achieve much more than 80% charged under normal running as the BMS will...
Hi All,
I'm new to campervans and have had a T6.1 for about a year. I used it a lot last summer with no issues. However I have noticed that the leisurebattery is no longer chargingfrom the mains hook up. I have checked the cable and also used another but no change. I also checked the fuses on...
No disrespect, but i think you need to get knowledgeable "hands on" help. There is obviously something fundamentally wrong if you're chewing through starter batteries & the LB isn't charging as it should. Trying to diagnose it with drip feed info, is virtually impossible. It needs looking at...
Now that we're in one place for a couple of days, I've had time to think about another plea for advice - it's pain in the 4rse as we're only just at the beginning of a 5 week trip. Apologies for any typos as I'm on my iPad.
After issues with my starter battery (which now seems to be OK), I...
Yep, good point, you get the trickle when on EHU. I fitted an Ablemail instead as that essentially works from the leisurebattery so also works from solar or will also sacrifice LB charge to maintain the SB if you have no charge coming in. It’s brilliant for camping or leaving the vehicle...
So if you have the factory BCM controlled relay when you are driving the starter and leisurebattery will be connected as a single battery bank.
The van will charge this to around 80%. It leaves that 20% so the batteries can accept charge during regenerative braking.
So if you camp off grid...
