Sunset at Southport, no overnight camping allowed. Could have moved to a car park nearby but it was rammed.. but forgot to charge the leisurebattery so no heating and without EHU Mrs was not ready for “roughing it” after only coming back from the Canary Islands earlier this week… still needs to...
It only flashes when the EHU cable is connected and power is being sent from the victron.
I can't test the voltage, embarrassed to say I don't have a multi meter.... It's been on the list for about 10 years!
From what I've read the signal needs to be 12v 50mA, so something to step the volts...
Hi guys, having a bit of an issue with my elec set up.
Plugged into a EHU on Tuesday, van was happy with voltage display reading 13.8v on my Sargent EC160 panel. Went to move pitches (was offered a better pitch), plugged into that one and the control panel read 12.2v but the 3 pin plug socket...
Alternator charging under the factory set up is basically: 100a fused connection from the starter battery (e-box fuses) going to a split charge relay with an ignition signal wire under the passenger seat, then to an 80a fuse, then to the leisurebattery positive terminal.
Literally nothing more...
You should make sure that both batteries get a maintenance charge - ideally you have a decent multi stage charger on your EHU already for the leisurebattery so just leave it hooked up - starter battery you can either fit something like the AMT-12 to trickle it from the maintained leisure...
I have an EC155 but I’ve only used EHU 2 or 3 times in the last 6 years. As far as I’m aware it’s not a smart charger so isn’t great for avoiding battery damage.
I just use my CTEK 250SA via B2B and 150w solar to charge my 2x45Ah AGMs, plenty for what I need even for months away from home.
OK, so I've read through the last 51 pages (maybe skimmed a little bit). My original leisurebattery, a Platinum AGM Plus LeisureBattery 12V 100Ah AGMLB6110L is now approaching 5 years old and appears to be showing its age, and so looking to upgrade. The current battery is built into a cabinet...
To add to this, camper leisure batteries are slightly off piste in that they charge and discharge at the same time. I.e. you plug into EHU & your mains charger kicks in. But at the same time the fridge/lights/usb etc will be pulling current from the battery. Some battery chargers don’t like this...
The AMT ks more fit and forget, so long as your leisurebattery is also recieving charge from solar/EHU
For me I like the challenge of making it work and also, for now, I'm keeping the van pretty much stock and I had almost all the bits to hand. With where I park tailgate on to the garage it's...
Yes that's what it is for. If you are on EHU make sure the charger is on and it will support the 12v leisure system. As an 8A charger there may be times where the load draws more from the battery but it will likely balance out and recharge in the other times given you seem to have a modest load...
Pretty much:
When you charge the Starter battery, the higher voltage fools the van into thinking the alternator is running so activates the ”engine run“ signal. This then activates the split charge relay, so your charger then begins to charge both the starter and leisurebattery as they are now...
Can you find space to fit one of the Ablemail trickle chargers?

No the LB is charged up to 12.7v on EHU.
When I disconnected the DC DC from the van battery I was expecting it to go dead and then reset. But the app showed it still had 5.7v so it never reset. I was guessing that the LB was somehow providing power.
Driving today the DC DC is still showing...
Mine does that, I charge the Starter over the winter, and the Split Relay activates and charges the Leisure.
I would have thought no issue with doing as you suggest. It's just voltage. If the Leisure doesn't need it, it won't accept it. Same happens when people have Solar and EHU.
Been charging my Starter battery today and just by luck I was in the van when I noticed that the DC-DC converter turned on even though i’d disconnected the “engine run” signal to it by pulling the fuse (disconnected).
Back to the REDARC manual and it states that the trigger works as follows...
The renogy inverter also has the option for passthrough EHU/SHU. So standard operating is it pulls from the batteries and when plugged into EHU/SHU it pulls fromEHU/SHU.
It's still reliant on an educated end user. For breakfast they will try run the induction hob on max setting for...
Hi all, My van has a leisurebattery fed by the vans' normal charging system, with the switch to prevent overcharging etc. The problem is, in the winter with all the lights on and heater going, after a day, I need to start the van up and recharge the leisurebattery as the EHU on sites merely...
Re 1), this was in response to a Q asking if it was normal that the leisurebattery discharged in a week in winter...
...did you mean to say that yes this is normal?
Did you perhaps miss the key word 'unless'? ie "yes this is normal UNLESS you've turned all the camping loads off"?
...but...
There are a lot of similar threads if you search for the common all in one brand names like "Sargent"

It's in reach of DIY certainly, but you'll be handling potentially much higher currents than normal that will need some...
