Well, for class N1 vehicle (VIN: WV1....) the software update is not mandatory - which might be the reason for their statement. However, there is an update available (6166) for vehicle's suffering P20EE fault. No, it just irons out some annoyances. Would be astonishing if not.

You will need a code reader not sure if you can do it with carista off the top of my head. search the forum you will be able to find the software version number you require. How old is the van? Did you buy from a VW dealer? Anyway it’s probably an ongoing issue and they have just cleared the code.
