...it constantly!) To purchase some wheels. I have finally decided on some Fuel zephyrs but can't decide on what size tyres! Do I go 235/65/17 or 245/65/17?! The 235 will obviously mean less error on Speedo and less gearing etc issues, but I keep thinking will the 245 fill the arch more and...
Can confirm this - although my passenger side with 245/65 tyres has a few mm clearance - drivers side was rubbing a tiny amount initially but now I've got a few k on the tyres they're clear.
I’ve got 235/65/17’s on a 4motion with a 35mm lift kit. Rub a little on full lock. Anyone know what spacers I’d need to run if I fit the BFgoodwich 245/65/17’s ???
Thanks
Can you describe the modification, please? Was it something you did yourself or something you bought? I also have 245/65 R17 but just a standard spare currently.
After LOTS of research, I went for 235/65/17 on the basis that 245/65/17 would likely rub at the rear of the rear wheel arches. With these on there is only about a 10mm clearance, with the 245's almost 100% certain the heat gun and some fettling would need to be done.
What wheels? The offset will be why or if your tyres rub.
I've got 245/65 R17 wheels on 8x17 et35 wheels, only had the tiniest bit of rubbing on the rear arch at the back on one side until a few hundred miles in. Ride height is about 20mm down from a std van.
245/65 R17 AT3WA's are 111 rated so that's also a factor, they'll be slightly stiffer than a 108 rated tyre so possibly a bit less comfort. But also stronger?
Yeah with my 245/65's I could barely fit a fag paper (is that still a unit of measurement? ) between the tyre and that bit of the arch liner on the drivers side - the passenger side was fine though. And now I have a few thousand miles on them they've got a bit of clearance.
In a nutshell, they won't rub and the speedo won't under read!
You can certainly get away with 245/65 but they may rub, especially if lowered (that's a another subject...).
Depending on wheel spec you could probably make a 235 rub to be fair but most transporter specific wheels seem to be...
Hi there and thanks for looking at my tyres with loads of tread left in them.

What do i need to do to the carrier etc to get a 245/65/17 underneath ? We used to run 235/65/17 and with a bit of lube and brute force we could get that in, but never ever tried the larger wheel. Can someone post a link or details of whats needed ? Thank you !
In the photo they are the the 245/65 x 17 tyres that came with the wheels. I am intending to put 235/55 x 17 tyres on them though. Here in NZ they will fail a warrant of fitness (MOT in UK speak) if tyres are more than 5% bigger than standard.
Reduced to a sensible figure
