What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Oh, almost forgot (hahaha)..... Today....
I tried the new shoes on, omg what a difference! (Stock T32 suspension)

And check out the size difference  (both are 17" rims).

That’s one crazy optical illusion- both wheels the same diameter!
The Wildpeaks look to have a very rounded profile - are they always like that, are yours pumped up to the max or are the rims at the narrower end of the fitment chart?
Guess you’ll be using gps for a speedo with those on?
They do suit the van though. Love the colour.

Been a bit chilly so actually read the manual (I know!) to figure out the wiper service position trick and used the natty screen cover from the old XC70

Also getting tired of the dragging windscreen chatter in the rain so new Bosch Aero twin fitted front and rear.

As soon as the weather gives me a small break also have a trio of Soft99 products to treat the front and rear glass, will see if it's snake oil or as wonderful as everyone says

Can you advise (link) which aero twin for a t6, mine don’t clear great and figured low cost intervention may improve

I just looked them up at Bosch.

I'm a 6.1 but I don't think they are different.

You're looking for the A351S 24inch/600mm on the front (I got the twin pack) and the A403H 16inch/400mm on the rear.

I'm still out on the 2nd step - the rain repellent coating - as it's very easy to have that lead to smearing and juddering wiper blades for a while after application.

However, the first step glass cleaner is brilliant - mine needs doing again soon tbh.

It gets rid of the water marks and stains which you can see when your wiper blades pass over the screen which then disappear after a second - most people won't notice these but they make driving at night horrible, once you've gone to a 'proper' clean windscreen you can't go back!!

Gtechnic actually recommend cleaning the windscreen with a DA polisher before applying their ceramic coating, it doesn't 'polish' the glass as in remove a layer, but it cleans it better than any hand cleaning will do.

12:28 in this video, shows exactly what I mean, shows the staining which only appears when the glass is slightly damp, and how a DA gets it actually clean.

I know right, i actually got the tape measure out!

I had noticed pretty much all of the AT tyres have a fairly round profile unless its the BFG KO.

New RIMS are 8 or 8.5 wide and stock Devonports are 7 if i recall correctly. But the "ET" offset of these are about 30mm different as well so no need for spacers.

As for the speedo, while i do have Waze on the head unit most of the time ill edit the speed calibration in VCDS, on the dash (digital cluster) or "Car Scanner" can actually calibrate it on the fly with GPS

After LOTS of research, I went for 235/65/17 on the basis that 245/65/17 would likely rub at the rear of the rear wheel arches. With these on there is only about a 10mm clearance, with the 245's almost 100% certain the heat gun and some fettling would need to be done.

Can confirm this - although my passenger side with 245/65 tyres has a few mm clearance - drivers side was rubbing a tiny amount initially but now I've got a few k on the tyres they're clear.

I have found aero twin wipers to be the best and have fitted them to our cars and our daughters car. Very happy with them. I tend to park the wipers under the cover to keep them nice and warm. Does the penguin mind being bashed with a with a stick even if it is covered with a rubber blade :D

Just seeing you mention a ceramic glass coating, are they any good?

As for the cleaning of the windscreen, completely agree!! I have been using a combination of a solvent (Bake cleaner/ isopropyl) and a mild cutting polish on my windscreens for years, makes driving in the rain (especially at night) a much "clearer" experience

I've not tried a proper chemical/ceramic glass coating - my only issue with stuff like rain-x and the Soft 99 Glaco DX coating is that they tend to end up a bit a bit smeary and cause wiper judder.

I'd hope that a proper chemical coating, once cured, would 1) last longer (Gtechnic G1 claims up to 20,000 miles) and 2) won't smear or judder.

G1 does actually say it might cause juddering for a week or 2 after application though. Next time I might just try the cleaning step with no coating afterwards.

I don't have a garage for application though so can't really use a proper ceramic coating as they need 12hrs out of the elements to fully cure.

Autoglym glass cleaner and a new set of Bosch Aerotwins, 6 weeks in perfect wiper performance, I do love a bit of snake oil but when things are working well I'm not going to try any! I will still keep putting posh fuel in though which many consider to be oil of the snake...

I clean mine with washing up srubber and screen wash. Perfect vision.

I've tried them all over the years, none do any better than an actual clean screen.

I use 100% IPA for other reasons (electronics) so often use that to clean glass inside and out, and a long term Autoglym user and RainX - I just find cleaning the central of the screen a real issue with access to it for something that needs a bit of elbow grease like the Autoglym so was looking to try something else for a bit.

And yes the "keep dry for 12 hours" is a bit tricky to comply with at this time of year...

When you guys say 'clean', do you mean clean when the windscreen is dry? Because that's easy to do - just make sure you don't use a normal microfibre cloth on the inside as they leave behind thousands of tiny fibres.

For the outside, this is the hazing that I'm talking about, it's hard to find videos of it:

To get rid of this you need some sort of abrasive cleaner, something like the Glaco glass cleaner or a DA polisher.

FYI for normal glass cleaning, forget using any chemicals - top tip is to use an old style synthetic Chamois cloth like this. Then a glass cloth to finish.

I'm afraid you will need chemicals. Some pollutants, such a unburned hydrocarbons, cannot be wiped away no matter what cloth you use. The methanol in screenwash is n idel solvent for that purpose.

Yep that fine haze effect.

I have specific glass cloths for the outside for general cleaning and I'm a bit weird and nip out when it's rained to give all the glass a quick rub down with it - fresh rain very few minerals

Outside I have used bog standard cream cleaner in the past, seems to work fine, but usually Autoglym glass polish these days. IPA tends to be used more inside to get the YoungUns greasy marks off, but I find it helps with that weird fine greasy haze you can get on the inside of the windscreen after a while.

I suspect I'm going to get more out of the cleaner than the sealer but we'll see.
