...answering another post it's not the LTE it's the GPS/GNSS antenna (got the two mirrors mixed up) but still the likely cause of the error as the SOS system can't determine your position.
Antennas on a 6.1 in my post here:

...between dab/fm whilst driving ,
I suggest checking the dab/amp is switched on in settings. And check nothing is interfering with it, ie dash cam, usb chargers, aftermarket led lights, even some B2B , amps can cause issues. But it will not be the sos retention interface, or headunits wiring .
...is your software up to date?
I am having issues with mine and my dealer under All in plan has said that until the software is updated they cannot exclude or replace the head unit/SOS unit however they want to charge me a few hours labour circa £300 for the privelege of updating the software.
There does seem to a persistent number of 6.1 vehicles with faulty SOS modules. If it's that close to purchase take it up with the vendor and get them to replace it.
At least you are getting a fault indication, other folks seem to get all the problems but the module (incorrectly) says it's...
Can anyone identify the three coax connectors here please. Behind the driver's door card (RHD). There are no aerials in my mirrors and I have the SOS error and no radio reception so I'm trying to find which to buy. (Think I have the one for the LH mirror and the GPS black cuboid block from the...
So the van has been into VW for some MORE software updates to fix SOS issues etc. Unfortunately they fecked up my reverse camera. It was a retrofit so obviously they wrote over the coding. After an hour searching on here I've recoded it myself with my OBD11. Never looked into long coding before...
Do you have pictures of the system to help identify it?
Also what type of van do you have? From previous questions about the SOS module I assume it's a 6.1 but which model?
I believe if you set maximum privacy one of the things it will prevent is your position being used by the SOS system, and that might be why you are reminded every time.
For balance I have mine (MY21 T6.1) the other end of the settings and it still chooses to remind me every week or so.
I’m afraid I would take the VW view here. If the SOS is showing as not connected, and Skyline have relocated it, then Skyline need to fix it.
The radio arial and SOS are different things, and I would expect phone calls are using Bluetooth/CarPlay to your phone rather than roof arial (again...
Coolant leak / Mystery. help!! SOS!!
Hi everyone.
Wondering if anyone can help please.
I have a coolant leak / mystery.
My van seems to be drinking coolant with no trace? Put approx ltr in a few weeks ago and just had to top it up as the light came on? Anyone else had a similar issue or...
Yes the SOS works and it does require 2 mics.
It can be a bit slow to fire up in the mornings and I really only use CarPlay on it for nav, music and radio but it does what it should
Hi Carter333
How did you get on? I dropped the battery on mine for 15 mins and the globe goes white again now but still same problems, I’ve been told to go to main dealer also now.
...check all connections in the right hand mirror today, and possibly the roof aerial. I'm hoping that sorting these connections will remove the "sos emergency call restricted workshop!" message instead of having to go to VW and pay lots. I've pressed the SOS button and a call went through but I...
Good news, sounds like the actual root cause was a faulty LTE/4G modem meaning neither the SOS or the infotainment system had any connectivity.
Forcing the maximum privacy is logical (as that's all it can do) but you'd think at some point adding a message as to why that's all it could do...
The public have fallen hook, line and sinker for technology, which is a dream come true for manufacturers, "you want wind assist sir? that's only an extra £8/month, you'll barely notice it."
Yeah, until it goes wrong.
