T6.1 SOS Error: emergency call. Workshop!

I think you have got 3 different issues not connected directly. One is the SOS module, which need replaced. Mine has just been replaced.
Second issue is the infotainment. My unit has been replaced as well. 3rd Issue is the engine stalling: did you notice anything weird? Is your oil temperature steady on the screen? I am asking because I had stalling issues and they were related to oil sensor which was faulty and triggered EPC and ESP lights, hence the edit was cutting power.
Thanks. no nothing else weird at all. Everything else is working fine and no other warning lights, other than the engine management warning came in when it stalled first time. But went off immediately after restart and hasn’t come back on.

It sounds to me more like the SOS fault for you is a symptom of something else going on in the electronics rather than a fault in the SOS system.

Do you have a fault code reader and are there any logged?

I wouldn't put too much weight on connectivity issues between phone and head unit, they are very sensitive to upgrades in the phone OS and USB C is a complex collection of protocols.
Sadly, no don’t have a fault logger. But it’s booked in with VW, so they’ll be getting a list of issues to work through and diagnose.

It’s been trouble free since new, and sods law, just as we are approaching 3 years (end of March) this has started. Seems strange that they all occur at once - and I’m not a believer in coincidences.

Out of nowhere we got this error this evening.
It’s a 2023 T6.1 that’s covered 6000 miles.
I’m assuming it’s just we won’t be able to make an SOS call with this error. Is that the case?
Just trying to gauge the importance of the error as getting to VW during the week is difficult and I guess weekend appointments are scarce at best!

Yes is doesnt effect the function of anything else more of an inconvenience really !

It was noted that faults in this area can impact the head unit (and potentially over the air services and updates)

Bump to say that today someone did a number on my driver's side wing mirror on 71 plate (I think) T6.

So much so that I had to remove the mirror to drive home. I unplugged the main harness for the electric / heated mirrors. And the two small cables for the two boxes that are inside the mirror one is a radio antenna, not sure what the other is.

When I turned on ignition I immediately got the emergency call restricted workshop error. Also have a red light in the ceiling console next to the SOS button.

Welcome @AGfrom83

You've probably figured it out by now but the other is the primary LTE antenna used by the vans data/SOS system.

Technically it can still function in an emergency as there are secondary antennas but I suspect any data services will not until it's replaced.

This just came up on my Caravelle T6.1 Error: emergency call.Workshop! any one have any ideas? See photo attached. Thanks!!!

Hi my t6 has the same sos falt and is just out of warrantee. They wanted £2500 to fix something that i have never used. Heater vent was stuck only pumping out hot air. Had pay £700 to get that fixed. Thing thing is falling apart.

Welcome to the forum @Geza008

In this case @AGfrom83 doesn't have a fault in the unit, just a missing antenna.

You will have used it while it's working as it's also how VW provide over the air software updates and navigation map updates (at least for the first 3 years of inclusive WeConnect subscription)

You seem to have unfortunately had two for the common 6.1 faults. It's certainly a vehicle it's worth considering the extended warranty on.

Apologies just realised answering another post it's not the LTE it's the GPS/GNSS antenna (got the two mirrors mixed up) but still the likely cause of the error as the SOS system can't determine your position.

Antennas on a 6.1 in my post here:

I had had the same. After reading all these I opened the mirror and bottle that there are no aerials (explains the lack of radio reception, I bought it from somewhere remote and assumed it was an issue local to the area in Derbyshire). I ordered a GPS sensor, plugged in the blue connector and the error rent away immediately without even having to reset the codes.

I'd try another dealer then as that fault is about an issue detected in the power supply to the module - short circuit to B+ (battery positive) - likely a fault in the wiring.

Well 2-weeks into ownership (70 plate, 29k on clock) of our T6.1 Kombi we’ve had a day of Infotainment unit restarting every few mins and then the SOS failure error

Having read this thread seems SOS unit replacement has done job for people? Contacted dealer to see what they have to say.

Has been fine, only change is earlier in week it came up with a Software Update display.

Any other suggestions gratefully received.

If you are in 2 weeks of ownership you are in the short time period (first 30 days) of your strongest consumer rights so do press the dealer for a resolution if it wasn't a fault declared during the sale.

See my post here:

I have the SOS Error Emergency Call Workshop error too.

Took it to my local VAG garage and the diagnostics suggest it needs a new unit for £1,500. There was no outstanding software update that needed to be loaded, and they even tried to force an update by saying a new unit had already been installed, but it did not fix the problem.

However, I am still able to make an emergency call via the SOS button (I checked) so not sure what installing a new unit is fixing.

I did try and register as a new user on the Infotainment system and it returned errors when I tried to do this. Not sure if that related or not.

I am loathed to spend £1,500 just to get rid of seemingly meaningless warning.

Any advice or insights greatly appreciated?

One reason I bought T6.1 in version Beach is to have less electronic features that could go faulty. And here I am, getting the SOS Error Emergency Call Workshop error. Checking the price of repair - the amount is ridiculous. f*** Volkswagen. Car hasn't even 40 000km on it, 09/2020. I guess repair and sell. I don't buy newish cars for 60k eur to visit workshops. Mercedes V-class it is, I guess.

Misus has had two V Class - back when all the kids were at home and I used to shoot and needed gundog transport they were handy.

So take it from me - theyre an odd choice if you want to avoid workshops.

Really? I hoped Mercedes was better quality. f*** it I guess, I won't have a car then :D
The German MB's are bad enough these last 25 years, but the V Class is made is Spain to a different level of shoddiness.

To be fair, there isn't much bout in the mid-sized van market if a reasonable assurance of reliability is high on your shopping list.
