Hi Folks,

Mate had a van broken into at a local golf club which has a fishing lake. Also spoke to the police, it was the about 30th of the van in the area.

Apparently took them approximately 15 seconds to break into via the sliding door, with a chisel and hammer, and cleared all his tools out in 2 minutes!

This has gone we worried, I don’t leave anything worth stealing in the back overnight on drive at least.

Need to beef up the security I prefer prevention, I don't like those additional locks that show on the outside, as frankly think that attracts attention. What systems are there out there to at least reduce this type of attack please? Vibration alarm, some sort of steel plate on the inside?

Already have stock alarm, Ghost 2, smart water tagged, Disklock, cameras, and alarm on house.

Once you have read all 162 posts on this thread, I would think you'll be fairly well answered!!!

Stopping them stealing the entire vehicle is pretty straightforward.

Stopping them breaking in while there is any side or rear glass fitted is nigh on impossible.

My SiL doesn't lock his Transit - he doesn't want Johnny Scumbag to do £££s of damage only to find he empties it every night.

My son has recently picked up a Ford Transit Custom for work (self employed gas engineer/plumber) and the "retro fitted security" is amazing

extra dead locks top and bottom on all doors
plates over all weak points
camera inside and out linked to motion detectors and monitored.
alarms
panic buttons
tracking with immobiliser
great racking and a pull down chair in the back

unfortunately some features now disabled and require sign up to get back working. discovered the original use of the van from new was for legitimate cigarette distribution - guessing that would 10's of thousands £ of stock at any one time

he says the locks become a pain but now he is used to it loves the consequential beefed-up security that came with the purchased van
