110PS - which oil?

I think there are cases of T6,1 ending up with to much oil in the sump and this is diesel being injected on the exhaust stroke for dpf regens, I also think that semi synthetic oil may keep its viscosity better over it's life because of the mineral content which probably doesn't matter anyway as it will most likely be changed after far less miles than it's life expectancies. So that said and not wanting a argument withanyone are there many oil that meet VW standards 507.00 and what do people recommend.
Thanks

I work on the theory that if a reputable company says it meets VW standard 507.00 it should be good to use.
Last time I changed the oil I used Castrol Edge, but I can't say that it's better than any other oil meeting the same specification.
I'm a fan of frequent oil changes, that's just my personal opinion, I don't go 10K miles between oil changes regardless of what VW say and I do it myself.

Same here every year with an mot regardless of milage saying that it’s usually around 6000-8000miles

Ditto! Oil and filter every 5000 from new - prob OTT but my van is real workhose so I’m giving it the best treatment. I always use VW oil and filters. My best mate who I go racing with has a brilliant independent garage where I get the work done . I also service the DSG every 20k

Obviously VW do not make their own oil, and I read somewhere (could be porkies) that it is actually Shell Oil.

I am about to do an Oil change midway between the VW service scheduled change and am looking at either Shell Helix Ultra c2/c3 ECT 0w30 or Mobil 1 ESP 0w30

Castrol edge i think now and I'm going for 5/30 rather than a 0/30 as I think they have fairly high oil temperatures, I'll change it about 5k and do the filter every time although would it be possible to do the filter every other change or is that false economy? It's been helpful reading everyone's views, thanks

I just think that as the cost of the filter is small compared to the cost of the oil I'd just do both every time while I'm there.

I know VW do not make their own oil and as long as the oil is the correct specification for the engine that will suffice. Being the pedantic person that I am I use the VW branded oil knowing it is 100% correct - I buy 20 litre cubes from TPS which works out considerably cheaper when doing frequent oil changes. I’ve not heard of a 0-30 oil being on the VW spec sheet for diesel vans but I am curious to learn.

It's on the factory sticker on the slam panel on mine, although I'll go VW spec 5w/30 when it's due a service.

Not at all, so fear not. Saves a load of grief reading up on specs elsewhere, and you know you're getting the right stuff so nothing at all wrong with that approach if it suits you.

Don't do that on a new engine though it'll never run in properly. Glazed bores and a smoky exhaust are a potential side effect.

If your mileage allows it try and get to around 30k miles before dropping the oil change interval. That harder for folk like me that only do a couple of thousand a year, but the idea scenario for those that do more regular miles.
If that’s a reply to my oil change post, the van already had 95k on it when I bought it at 3 years old. So previous oil changes were done at roughly 15k intervals looking at the VW service history.
It was definitely run in.
