17” tyre recommendations

This may be a silly question -

I have a 2022 T32 with original 17inch alloys and tyres 215/60 R17 109. Need some new tyres, can I put crossclimate 2 235/65 R17 108 on it?

Thanks

It's not a silly question if you don't know the answer.

Some folks on here might be able to give you a straight yes/no answer, but as I'm not one of them, I'd use this site to check out the difference in rolling circumference (and therefore % speedo error) between the two sizes...

Cheers but I'm not sure what wheel width or offset input is in this calculator
I don't think the width and offset matter for calculating the rolling circumference - they're used for determining wheel position within the wheel arch (i.e. wheel tuck and poke)

Hi. The tyres should fit fine with standard wheels, unless van as seriously lowered.

VW California Oceans have 235/55 r17s as standard fit. So width should be no problem.
Also, find some links re 235/65 r17 tyres on VW California Club here;

Search results for query: 235/65 r17

And a link to the wheel-size.com comparison calculator here;

Rim & Tire Size Calculator. Custom Offsets

Hope this helps.
Andy
PS Remember your Speedo will
Show a 7% lower speed than with standard tyres.

im running 17" devonports with 235/55/17 cross climate 2, thats an OEM size so wont throw the speedo out. and reason you want larger 235/65?

Helllo!

Looking for some decent MPG and not too noisy for my 17s, any recommendations?
Been doing some research and found these so far:
Pirelli scorpion AT tyres
Michelin Latitude Cross
Grabber AT3**
Cooper Discover at3s

Cheers

I've just done over 10k on a set of Michelin Cross Climate 2 SUV (108w) - get decent MPG, low noise and superb road grip.

65 are cheaper that's all. Not sure what that number means I could go for 60 so matching existing??

The first of the two numbers is the nominal section width of the tyre. It is given in millimetres and defines the distance between the inner and outer sidewall of the tyre. For example, 205 means that your tyre is nominally 205 mm wide.

The second number is the relationship between a tyre’s sidewall height and the tyre's width. It is expressed as a percentage. For example, 55 indicates that the sidewall height, between the top of the tread and the rim, is 55% of the tyre width.

Copied from the Michelin website.

Put your numbers in here: https://www.willtheyfit.com/

and that will compare any two set ups. Would be worth putting in the OEM sizes vs what your running/ want to run and it will tell you how much bigger and speedo impact etc.

Hello! Looking at some 17” tyres, I have seen 90% of people go for 235 width and 55 or 65 profile. Hard decision, but is there any advantages to having wider tyres? I suppose the wider the louder too.

If you have a 4 motion, it would be advisable to change to the same circumference on the spare wheel.
I’m not sure about a 235 but a 225 65 r17 will fit in the carrier without any modifications

Help..... Newbie here and I know nothing about tyres. We have a 69 plate T32 Highline DSG - purchased earlier this year as a panel van and now fully converted. It went in to VW this week to have the ACC looked at and they noticed that our tyres aren't even commercial tyres - came to us with a new MOT in January so I can only think the guy we bought it off changed them after the MOT was done....grrr. It currently has 4 x 215 / 60R17 96H and we're off to France next week so need to get this sorted.

Our tyre man has said "There isn’t a great deal of choice in the 104/102 and as the 98H or V are insufficient then it might be worth looking at a higher rated tyre like the 109/107. We can get….. Continental VC200 £158.60 + vat per tyre, Goodyear EGrip Cargo 2 £157.20 + vat per tyre, Avon AV12 £137.60 + vat per tyre, Uniroyal Rainmax 5 £138.50 + vat per tyre. If you wanted an ALL SEASON tyre we can get…. Uniroyal £156.55 + vat per tyre, Goodyear Vector 4 Season Cargo £193.42 + vat per tyre. Alternatively Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Cargo in a 104/102H at £154.00 + vat per tyre or I can also get a Kumho in a 104/102T at £108.00 + vat per tyre"

Trying to get the best solution for the least cost - any advice please?

Thanks for the reply. These are substantially more £££ - are you saying the ones our contact has suggested are not suitable?

Is there any disadvantage to going for a higher-rated load - ie 109 rather than 103/104?

OR...you could get a decent set of Devonport wheels with nearly new tyres in the for sale section on this forum. :p

there's 10% off & the price includes VAT, so works out cheaper than some of your prices. They are a very good tyre. For further tyre info, try the search function.
