20’s any regrets?

It’s currently sitting in the drive with a spare on the drivers rear and a blistered tyre on the passenger rear. I’m leaving it until Monday to decide what I’m doing with these 20’s.
20's can work well with the right suspension, and tyres... There's 3k easily spent! Easily my bestest mods. M&S had a good interest free purchase card at the time!
 
Sorry I just double checked and my 20’s have 40’s all round not 35’s
I’ve had zero problems with them and I’ve got cheap Churchill’s on. They came with the van but will upgrade them when they’re done.
This could very well be my issue, I'm trying to see what I can do to change these out for 40's. Just spent time on a call to Skidz in Falkirk, it's higher profile tyres or new wheels today or tomorrow for me.

I’m sure you will be fine with 40’s.
Virtually all my camping spots are off grid so I drive over lots of bumpy uneven ground.
Zero problems so far and I’ve done a few thousand miles on them.

Have a good look at the rims @burnsy79 , make sure there's no cracks.
A new 'better' set of rubber will certainly help while you find some suspension money!
 
Cheers for the advice guys. Just off the phone from Velare alloys and they are recommending 275/40 R20 on them... said he was going to speak to Skidz as the 255/35's aren't recommended. I'm away to look at black circles now... large bill incoming :(

275 is a bit wide on the fronts... Too wide for an 8 rim.
 
I was wrong, they are 8.5’s apparently
Ideally 255 or 265 would be a maximum... I have 245/45 on my front 8.5's, originally on 275/35 but Steve at CRS told me to 'lose them'! Steering responsiveness is much better with 245's on the front.
 
Asda tyres are worth a look. Got a good discount and £50 of vouchers to. They were cheaper by about £100 with the vouchers and that was for 265 40 Goodyear asymmetric5. I usually use costco but they didn't have offers on at the time.
 
Right, as we say up here “games a bogey”. Went to Skidz and ordered 18” steel wheels with the proper 255/45 R18 cross climates and get them on Thursday. Any wanna buy 20’s? Don’t read this thread first lol

I’m same as @Drive Wayne 8.5 front, 10 rear, 245/45/20 and 275/40/20. Suspension by CRS. I’m happy with it and they’ve been on for over 3 years. When I put my 17” Devonports back on with those 109 van tyres for big trips it’s definitely a harsher ride.

I was stuck with the 8.5’s all round unfortunately. I pick up these 18’s with Cross Climates on Thursday so will assess how I feel about the 20’s after a week or so with the 18’s.

Been on 20’s since 2016 @55miles, 255/45/20 tyres. Originally lowered 50mm on factory suspension, was crashy. Then found Steve at CRS Performance, @200 miles. Then fitted Koni sport shocks, the ride and drive is fantastic. Getting right suspension and the right wheel and tyre combination is the way.

Never had a problem…… other than the Vw lower spring rubber, upgraded in 2022.

I have 20's and lowered about 60mm and I put lanvigators on the front a few months ago. I can't tell any difference between those and the pirelli p zero that were on before, even in the wet. Time will tell how well they wear, but the pirellis weren't great in that respect either.

The wear wasn’t an issue for me, they weren’t too bad in that respect. My concern was that I had the 3 separate blistered tyres. I always felt like I had to watch the tyre pressures constantly. If it was too soft (38-42) the inside of the rear tyres looked bulged and if it was the right pressure (45 ish upwards) it was unbearable over the current roads. I’d imagine if you keep the pressure exact to recommended it might be ok, but that was way too harsh on our van. I started messing with tyre pressures after I cracked a wheel and maybe that contributed. Others seem to run them fine… could have been a number of issues. Because of our experience I just suspected that the 102 load rating was optimistic.

I run mine 42 on the front due to having the weight of the biturbo engine and 4 motion. I'll keep my eye on the blister situation, thanks for the heads up.

The rear seemed to be the issue mostly, although I did blister the drivers front. I did have a theory at one point that the van may have been sitting flat on the converters forecourt for a while and that damaged the tyre wall… just a theory though.
