20’s any regrets?

I have had my 20s on for a couple of years now, the biggest regret is swapping the Goodyear eagles for Accellera tyres when I needed new front tyres, it's completely changed how comfortable it felt to it now feeling every ridge and ribble in the roads and the steering is much less precise than before, its horrible!

You can really tell how rock hard these tyres are, so for all the people always saying there's no difference in budget vs expensive tyres... I don't agree!

I had Accellera tyres for a short time and found them to be the worst tyres I’ve known. They are cheap for a reason. I couldn’t stand them, the ride quality was terrible and sold them on to guy with a Range Rover. Goodyear F1 Asymmetric are a world apart in every aspect. You only need to look at the yearly comprehensive tyre test on You tube to see who makes the best tyres.

I wanted a pair of budget tyres and enquired about the Accelera at my local tyre place. He said he won't sell them because of so many complaints. Stated they feel more like plastic than rubber and were really hard.

When I bought my van, it had 20" Velare VLR-07's, 275/35's all round, no rubbing, but very crashy, saggy arse syndrome, front pointing at the sky.
Steve at CRS performed a suspension miracle and recommended 245/45 on the fronts and 275/40 on the rears. A nice set of Michelin CC2 suv's was purchased thanks to my wifes NHS bonus she received over a year ago.
10k miles in on them now, recently come back from Skye, home of the Pothole, straight after that a trip the other way to Weymouth. Those tyres have been fabulous, no signs of wear yet, they stop well when necessary and aren't in any way noisy. Wet campsite grass hasn't been a problem either.
40 psi all round, going up to 42 when fully loaded. I will certainly have another set in due course, totally recommended to all.
I too have 20" 275/35's all round and not a huge fan of the ride.
Just done a 700 mile round trip last weekend, mostly motorways so pretty smooth but I do feel every knock, and the 2 pot holes that I did hit nearly put my through the wind screen!
Booked in with Steve at CRS on Monday, can't wait to see what he recommends and the new ride feels like

Interested in this just booked in with Steve on the 14th of Feb. Let me know how you get on

I'm running staggered 20's with a full koni setup from CRS which is sitting at a 65mm drop. Tyres are 245-45-20 front and 275-40-20 rear with no issues. It actually feels much better than when the van was on 18's with standard suspension.

Not had my van long, but it came with standard suspension and 20's on 275/40 cheap rubber.

Seems to run and drive OK, no rubbing etc. But having looked online it seems that the 20's on that rubber are around 7% over thr baseline circumference of a normal wheel. So no doubt the speedo etc is out. I also wonder what impact large wheels and tyred have on the mechanicals.

I'm not too fussed by looks, I'm more worried about mpg and ride comfort. So I'm thinking when these tyres are low about getting some 17 inch wheels end either decent road tyres or maybe even some swamper tyres (but that will harm mpg).

Ya gone through many styles of 20" alloys and due to the shocking road conditions got a winter set but 17s on Goodyears and I do have to say it drives better but doesn't look half as good for me! Did have b14 on lowest setting on 20s on my older van and the dreaded Accelera and the tyres just had no give! making the suspicion have to work very hard..

New Van came with 35s which normally I would struggle with but also came with solow suspension which has been a game changer

The rotiforms will be back on for Volksworld haha

A lot of mention on here about poor tyres. What brand you guys recommend when the time comes to change?

If it means anything, like I said in a previous post, I genuinely think the tyres and suspension set up are key. I’m running 18’s with Cross Climates for now but hoping to move back to 20’s when I stop spending on loads of other stuff. I’ll need the extra pennies for a really decent suspension set up and good tyres.

You are spot on there! Go to CRS + premium tyres and you will be amazed at the transformation. Good luck

Hi - I am new on here and new to Transporters. I have a 1997 T6 Highline LWB Camper with recently fitted 275/40 R20 all round. I had a new clutch fitted back in October and have had to have it replaced again due to judder and wear. The Issues started after going down a steep hill in 3rd gear, when I changed into 4th at the bottom of the hill the van juddered continually when changing from 3rd to 4th. Took it back to the garage and they inspected the clutch and the clutch plate was completely warn out and had done less than 1000 miles. They got the manufacture to inspect it and surprise surprise they said I must have been riding the clutch, which I hadn't. They agreed to replace the parts free of charge. The replacement clutch has just started juddering after 150 miles. Could the larger tyres be contributing to this issue ?. Extra torque etc putting additional pressure on the clutch
