2017 204 oil consumption issues [Resolved]

VW consider 1 litre per 1600km acceptable oil useage, so you are above that. Although the oil consumption does suggest a bigger problem I wouldn’t let it spoil your trip, just keep checking the level daily. Don’t let it get so low that the oil light comes on.
I guess if you’re getting through oil at a fair rate then buy the cheapest 5w 30 you can find as long as it conforms to the 507 vw spec.
That creamy residue is normal for vans that have done short journeys. Wipe it off and see if it comes back. It’s not as much as it looks as there is a plastic ridge just inside the filler pipe.

204's have a known issue in respect to oil consumption. I have heard 1ltr per 1000km is deemed okay.

These guys have lots of experience with these engines:
Give Tom a call and he might be able to give a longer term plan and obv you need to find someone local

If Ford can recall their vans with the wet belt issue someone keeps flagging up why can’t VW accept one litre of oil every 1000km is not really ‘acceptable’? They could do the DMFs while it’s in, lol.

Thanks for the reply guys. I didn't see we were up to page 8. So I was waiting an reply that did not arrive. Then I saw 'next' button :D

Mine burnt through a litre every 400 miles before the small turbo failed, since fitting new ones it's not used any in over 2000 miles

My 204 would use a dipstick length, about 1L every 8000 kms. It then dropped suddenly to approx 1 litre every 4500kms. There was always a bit of oil seeping out the orange boost pipe going into the charge cooler but noticed it would get heavier. I'm sure the problem was a turbo seal. I sold the van and went for a 150. Apart from the oil usage it was a brilliant van, I now need get used to the lower power

What is the best way to going about getting a goodwill contribution from VW on the engine? I've recently replaced both DPF and Turbos which would suggest the cost of the total work might be a little less than others have encountered.

Do you have a full VW dealer history?

Most of the service had been done at a VW dealer until the previous owner who opted to go to an independent VW specialist.
Adios to goodwill I'm afraid.

The moment we don't show them goodwill by not using the dealer network they won't show us any in return. They've lost us as customers by that point so they see no incentive to keep us sweet.

You can of course try, but their oft stated position is as above.

What would be the best point of contact ? Is there a specific department which deals with this?

I feel as though they have been taking advantage of their customers, especially in these instances. They supplied a product with a known defect and will only provide goodwill to people who've continued using their garages and further inflated prices to service a piece of shit engine which fails with or without VW 'professionals' administering the labour. This is a well documented fault with the VW product and there is more than enough empirical evidence to suggest that there was a factory defect with these units and regardless of how well maintained, VW servicing or other; the engine will fail and require a costly repair bill which will bankrupt a lot of families.

Scary you've got that so readily available. LOL.

I am absolutely appalled that they've designed something so utterly useless. Its actually shocking how bad this thing is.

No consolation to you in your position, but I did several months or research and lurking and steered clear of the higher powered models as a consequence.

I then paid a £2k deposit on my credit card (which I paid off the next day) as that gives purchase protection for the entire mount spent, and made sure it came with a warranty.

Interestingly, the converters I ended up buying from told me they don't do conversions on the models discussed in this thread for the very reasons cited here.
