255/35/20 Tyres

As for mot
What does class 4 mean
Can I not take my van to local mot tester?
A class 4 MOT is basically a car or light van (under 3 tonnes) MOT.
If you have a T32 it is likely it needs a class 7 MOT (commercial vehicle), although it's not always that simple so have a read of:

Also what’s the actual difference between 102 & 103 ?
A 103 rated tyre is rated sufficiently to be fitted to a vehicle that could weigh, if loaded to it's maximum gross weight, 3200KG, i.e. a T32.
It's not relevant in law that you may run around empty every day and never fully load your van.
A 102 load rated tyre isn't adequately rated for a T32 although it's fine on a T30.
Obviously you can use tyres that are load rated higher than you need.

I'm sure they'll be fine, just like that undersized RSJ holding the roof up over the kids bedroom, it came in at half the price of the one the structural engineer specced and that mate who's a shit hot plasterer says it's fine and as a bonus he won't even need to lowering the ceiling now.
Being a builder myself, trust me there’s plenty of people do exactly that, most of them on check a trade :slow rofl:

Check a trade…..as a consumer, I ignore them! A shower of money-grabbing knobs who prey on new tradesman and the proverbial “grey-haired little old ladies”! If ever a “trade body” did a disservice….!

I’ll get off my soapbox now!!!

Just curious to see what others are running, I've been using the 255/35/20 103 royal performance on a 4motion on Air.

Personally I like the Goodyear Eagle F1 but I don't think you can't get them in 103.

The Accelera tyre alot of people seem to use is absolute garbage. Wore out in 6000 miles and we have fully adjustable power flex bushes and 4 wheel alignment done. Won't be using them again

As your van is T30 Rob you don’t need the 103 rating, only 101, but that still limits what is available in 255/35 20. There are a couple of budget options, see here and here, but nothing from the mid range or premium brands.

If you want mid range or premium you’ll only get load rating of 97 in that size, but lots of choices of manufacturer in that load rating, including my personal favourite Falken FK520. Quiet, good in the wet and dry, usually cheaper than the big make premiums but with performance that is at least equal. There just not fully load rated for your T30.

I've been using the Accelera ones for a few years and had good results. As @Dav-Tec says, they do wear out quite quickly, but at their price point i dont find it an issue! Id rather wear out a £50 tyre than a £200 one! Haha

As for grip, I've never had an issue. In the wet and dry they are very good. Even done a lap of the nurburgring on them and had no issues.

Although one thing that will make me look to change is the road noise. I'm not sure if it's the tyre or the fact the vans low, but it can get very loud on certain surfaces.

I'd say similar to be fair, used the acceleras for the last couple of years, for the price I don't think you can quibble - It's not exactly a vehicle well known for amazing handling etc.

Many thanks for the info guys.
The problem I’ve found on the last set of royal performances are as they wear down they are going out of shape. Still got plenty of tread and life it’s just doing my nut in with the vibration.

I've got Accelera tyres and whilst they get mixed reviews on here, I like them. For the price point they are very good.
I will bow down to those that have had them longer and road tested them longer than me but I am happy.

255/35/20 were on my T32 and I noticed a vast improvement going to 265/40/20.

As a side note - @BognorMotors - your posts on all things tyres are very much appriciated.

The poor mileage comments for Accelera is counter to my experience with them and I've had several sets of PHI-R in 255/40/20. The set just taken off did 32k miles on a 70mm lowered LWB Caravelle.

Perhaps the other users were on PHI-2 or other model?

Accelera here too, no complaints, cheap as chips, nice side wall on them for air (not too square) I’ve had zero issues used them for years .

Where are you guys getting your Accelera tyres from, I can't seem to find any that are load rated to 101/102

You won’t Rob, they aren’t load rated. They are 97 like most in that size.
