Adding Rear Speakers to OEM Headunit and enabling Fade

Might be worth a try @cmvandrunen I was able to change the splash screen successfully but not the fader option.

I have seen a van that would not accept the change until the rear speakers were connected so if the van cannot sense them due to the amp then it’s definitely worth a try

Also keen to know if this is the explanation. My Jan 17 T6 had
Absolut3 amp, sub and front speakers fitted in September but the rear speakers weren't connected at that point and they were unable to get the fader to work. Need to find someone with VCDS now to see if it works with my rear speakers fitted.

That’s interesting as the one I did recently did have the speakers installed first.

Yes on the standard setup on vans & kombis, there are four speaker inputs on the back of the stereos - front left/right which are used & rear left/right which are empty
You need to install additional wires to new speaker location, remove stereo and fit new cables into the empty terminals on the existing quadlock connector on rear
Heres the connector before i added my rear speakers

and heres one of the wires with pin connected on end ready to insert into plug assembly

Its worth noting that after connecting additional speakers in they will work but to function properly the radio will need to be coded with VCDS (vagcom) to accept new speakers and this will activate the fader/balance menu in the radio to give you additional adjustments

@shylock i have VCDS if you would like speakers coded
@Pauly, cables all run in and ready to go, do you recall which of the empty sockets is left/right speaker?

I will take the laptop to work with me tomorrow just give me a call when your ready or I will be passing by Exeter street as some point if your at work all day ?

Cheers Paul. Whatever’s easiest for you. I’m in the yard in the morning, or I can come to the unit? I just got the head unit out, purple pin out but couldn’t get the yellow block out, it was getting dark and I’m just going out so didn’t want to force anything. All back together now, will try again tomorrow.

Also, my block configuration is slightly different to the image above, but I’m assuming the pin locations are the same (8 & 4 are upper, 1 & 4 are outside edge?)

Speakers are fittted and connected.

Thanks for this thread its very helpful.
Has anyone added speakers to the rear barn door or do they need to go in the roof ? Also, which is the best route to take the wiring ? Across the roof and down the A pillar or down the the floor and run under the carpets ?

What if i disconnect it from the amp en connects the wires direct from head unit to rear speakers. Wil this work? And if the fader option appears than reconnect the amp.

If you do this, the fader will appear on the screen, but when you disconnect the speakers, it will disappear again, the headunit needs to see the impedance of the speakers for the fader to stay on the screen.
I code a lot of these for rear speakers before the wiring has been completed, so no fader, but when the speakers are connected, the fader will appear. Maybe you need a resistor accross the amp input, or another way of lowering the impedance of the circuit?

Didn't realize it had a fader option. I have rear speakers, no amp. I'll try the reboot trick.

However the loom hasn’t been connected at the head unit end and I’m not sure how to remove the brown plug or the purple pin that locks / releases the connectors.

Also need guidance as to what wires / connectors go where on the head unit plug - rear speaker wire loom has brown & white wires.

Please help!!

they have little locking tabs on the brown connector that allow you too withdraw it out the rear of the larger quad lock connector
Once you get it out the purple pin pushes out one end of the plug (push it in from the other end with a small screwdriver or similar) and that will allow you to click the new wires in
