Adding Rear Speakers to OEM Headunit and enabling Fade

Just had rear speakers fitted which work fine. I know that in order to get the fader option, VCDS has to be used.

Should the fader option show on the head unit anyway or does it only appear when VCDS is used to activate it?

I've take a picture of the headunit for advice.

Thanks all.

Thanks Pauly, there's a few threads on your about activation which you have given a step by step guide. Hopefully it will work. One thing I am confused about, is Vag com the same as VCDS. Can it be activated by vagcom?

It's a 2016. I'm on VCDS now, but it's not talking to the van. It won't connect to the radio. It's trying but nothing. Any suggestions?

Make sure ignition is turned on
Make sure you have gone into options and clicked test and save to verify it’s working

Is it seeing can gateway ?
Can you get an installation list ?
If not I would go to Ross tech www for a trouble shooter

It has starter talking and we have gone through the instructions and it has accepted the coding but still no fader option. Does it need to sleep?

Possibly, not had that myself but others have
Lock it and leave for an hour and see if it sticks

Has the rear speakers been wired correctly to the rear channels. I ask as see so many connected them to the front outputs

That’s a good point, won’t activate unless it senses the rear speakers are connected (and not through am amp!)

How do I tell if they have been connected to the front outputs? The speakers were installed when the van was at the conversion company. I assumed that if they were working it would be connected to the rear?

Also would VCDS not work as in accepting the changes if the rear speakers weren't in the correct outputs?

Really confused now.

Many conversion companies solder, or even use scotch lock connectors attaching them to the front outputs ... best to pull the radio out and postbup a picture of the wiring

VCDS will allow the coding regardless even if there are no rear speakers

All done and working. You were right, the rear speakers needed to be connected to the other outputs which the company who installed them did for me after a chat. Once done, fader appeared. Well chuffed.

Thanks Absolut 5 for the suggestion.

@Pauly, jumping on this thread a bit. But I’m doing the same, run the rear wires from the back took the head unit out, assumed the green block is what we’re the speakers? There was 4 empty spaces.

id ordered the quad lock connectors, they’re genuine ones but were too big for the green block? Am I doing something wrong? Can’t find any other connectors on line that are smaller.

cheers

It’s the large light brown block not the green one

If you go VIP on here all the wiring diagrams are available

Hi Absolut5,

Which pioneers would you recommend for rear speakers to supplement the factory fronts? I’m putting the van into the converters next week and would quite like to spec some basic rear speakers for the kids.
(There’s only so much Disney CD I can handle through the front speakers!)

Cheers Mike

This is all you need, slim enough to fit flush in most locations, cheap and don't need a amp to drive them
