Adding Rear Speakers to OEM Headunit and enabling Fade

This post helped me a lot sorting out my rear speakers in the T6.1 Transporter. Thank you to everybody that contributed as it all added to what i needed to get it sorted. All that is left for me to do is get the programming done now.

In my T6 I think I only have 2 speakers wired to the standard head unit one in each door. When looking through the settings in the stereo I noticed there doesn’t seem to be a fader option to move sound to rear speakers.

Can rear speakers be added to the standard head unit with front/ rear fader?
I have sat nav and reverse camera. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Cheers

When you add rear speakers, you then Can code it with VCDS to make the fader appear

Module 5F byte 4. Change it from 2 channels/4 speakers to 4 channels/ 6 speakers.
Hi Deaky, I found Module 5F but cannot see "byte 4" or how to access it/show 4 speakers. Do you have any additional wisdom to share with me regarding how to find byte 4? I started wondering if the stock head unit in the T6.1 even has the fader option, I was going around in circles last night trying to find what seemed like a unicorn. Thanks, Mark

Those instructions are for T6, I'm not sure on how it's done on T6.1

As money is tight I'm considering quickly wiring in my old OEM front speakers and tweeters as rears, mounted somewhere - either rear corners of stock roof panels or the side panels. Can I just wire the tweeters into the same wires or is there a crossover somewhere at the head unit or aftermarket?

From memory there is a capacitor across the terminals of the OEM tweeters
Yeah, there is. Does that effectively reduce the range enough that you just wire them on the same channels?

The stock T6.1 h/u has fader function, the discovery unit appears to be causing fader activation issues

Hi,

Hoping someone can help....

I have the latest Discover Media Unit (MY2021) and I'm trying to activate the rear fader for some sound, as the fadar looks to be default front only at present - no rear sound :-(.

I fitted some rear speakers (2 way focal 165 AC - 4 ohm) and wired them to the spare Channel 1 and 4 outputs on the quadlock - in glove box - with correct pins.

I have adapted channels 1 HT and TT, Channels 4 HT and TT from Inactive to Active - but still no sound nor fader - I suspect due to B106813/B106613 Fault codes present (RR & RL Treble speaker O/C).

Adapting Just Ch 1 TT and 4 TT - leaving 1 and 4 HT active - results fault free - but no sound. Interestingly, when clearing faults - I do get a (momentary - one second ish) noise from all front and rear speakers.

I've read a fair bit on the rear fader ctrl being a little hit and miss/difficult with new units, though hoping that I may have a simple case of wrong impedance here (the 2 way focals).

Tempted to upgrade the front's any case and test the fronts in rear (guess in series) or do I simply need some specific rear speakers to satisfy HT and TT channels?

Grateful if anyone can help.

Hi Simboarder, I am hoping someone can help. Will be watching.

Hi all. I cannot find these connectors anywhere online, four connecting rear speakers into the quad lock. These two links have gone dead as they’re quite old. Can anyone help please?

This was £8 for the set, and I just needed 4 of the connectors. Worked a treat.

If anyone comes across this post, and needs these crimped connectors for the speaker block, drop me a message. I’ll post you some.

Just wanted to say thank you @Deaky - I used this advice with a local VAG specialist and their VCDS and it helped me out. Much appreciated and will make journeys in the T6 with the kids much more bearable. - all the best
