Additional Keys

Consider getting Ghost fitted, it will prevent the van getting nicked by someone who has the key...

Hope you get it sorted soon and your new year isn't ruined... All the best for 2020.

Happy Christmas you lovely people.
I hope your Xmas was better than mine. Yesterday I dropped my car keys while hauling presents into my mother's. A girl found them and came back later to Nick the van. Thankfully we knew what had happened and put a wheel clamp on before doing the 5 hour round trip to get the spare key. Despot her many efforts to take the van and an all night visual by family on the van, she never managed to steel it. Question is: if I get my keys reprogrammed and buy a spare battery key to replace the stolen one, can she still gain entry and start the van manually with the set she has, or will I need to change the locks too?
Here is hoping 2020 will be a better start x

Hope your 2020 is better than the tail end of ‘19.

How do you know a girl had them? Did you catch her trying to get the van?

As people have said on here, get a new key and take all of your keys to the dealer and they can erase all other keys from the ECU.

They’d still be able to use the blade to open the door lock, and it’d physically fit and turn in the ignition, but the immobiliser wouldn’t recognise the lost key.

As it’s a 5 hour journey, I assume that the van is normally miles away from the site that you lost the key. At least the van isn’t generally local then.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply, @Spaghettiboy78 Yes we put a wheel clamp on and they came back to try and get it off, after that, we set up a visual from another car and caught them coming back to try again. Sadly the police are not bothered despite having CCTV of the night's events. Definitely was a different Christmas to the norm, that's for sure!
@JasonW , please do tell me more about the Ghost, I am doing all I can to secure my baby so no one would want to take her! She is a WAV so she really is much more than a van to me, as she is the centre of my world and how I am able to be as independent as I possibly can.

She is back home well out of the area, and the family is doing all they can to try and locate the thieves. I just wanted to be sure that when we are back in the area, that I won't have to worry if they see the van and try again!

Happy new year all!!

No worries @Valentinat30 ; the other option (but more work) is to obtain a new set of door locks and change the locks aswell as recoding the keys to the van.

Years ago my wife had a key nicked for her 306 Cabrio, so I stashed it away at my house (we didn’t live together at the time) until I had chance to change the locks and erase the lost key.

The Ghost is a good option too as it would prevent theft even with a correctly coded key.

It’d never cross my mind to try and take advantage of someone losing a key. Wish more people were honest....

good luck!

Just looked up WAV... I understand why it’s doubly important for you. Hope you get it sorted.

Evening, I've only one ignition key for my T6 so any info how I go about getting a spare please? Many thanks

Hello guys,

Unfortunately we misplaced both our keys for a caravelle. the dealer price ridiculous. Can i order transponders form somewhere?
The 5 button fob what supports the electric sliding doors available everywhere but struggling to find transponders.

Is the dealer my only option?

Any info would be appreciated.

LLLParts might be an option. I’ve got a few genuine parts from them at reasonable prices.

You can get them cut to number through TPS for genuine but will still need coding vw only charge 1/2 labour

Ring a local mobile locksmith place, key are normally around £100-£130 each, may have to go genuine if it’s a 5 button fob should shouldn’t be crazy money, I would expect to pay around £250 for a pair of pattern keys or ££400-500 for a pair of genuine keys

Thank you gents. None of the lock smiths able to supply the five button fob. Dealer quoted 266+ vat / key

i wish i would have access to TPS. Since the changed policy domestic customers not customers anymore

i look around ask some local garages. I might be lucky

If you know anyone that works in a garage they maybe able to order through TPS I’ve only got a three button key but they were £135 from TPS
