Adventure Van

Hi ... @P20 Not sure where your Adventure Van takes you next...but more by luck than judgement we are now Thule converts and are just starting to Tow our adventure Trailer ...We where looking to mount an awning rail using track bolts on the bars, but by chance Thule have just brought out a new awning Thule 3200 for vans which mounts on roof bars and are considering this to add to the bike stands and solar panel supports....This product may or not be of any use to you in your travels but it’s good to share

Hi @P20 - what a cool van! I love how you’re adapting it to suit your needs and trying out different solutions. Well done both of you - I hope the van gives you many years of service, especially when the nation is allowed out to play again

Thoroughly enjoyed reading your journey thus far, great work. You both must get a great sense of satisfaction

I'm heading back to a T6 myself and have just started kayaking as well. How do you manage to lift the kayak up to that height, I have a bad shoulder so guessing it may be a little difficult for me so thinking of getting a small trailer once up and running to tow the kayak

I haven’t used one, but there are some options that might make it easier. Something like this:

I’ve been pondering over making a quick fit roller to compliment my two Thule Wingbars. I’ve looked at what’s available to buy but I feel there’s a better solution.
I’ll probably just use soft pads on the load bearing surface that will sit on the top of the tailgate. It will be secured to the aft wingbar. I’ll probably add a 3rd wingbar to avoid any risk of contact with the roof, as it’s a Reimo pop top there’s a 40Kg limit so I need to watch the overall weight.
There’s no way I can easily or safely lift my canadian canoe on to the roof and I don’t fancy the racks that drop down to the side of the van as that would side load the Reimo roof.

Thanks guys

Will check the Hullavator out, wonder if it can still be used on a van at a greater height

That makes sense regard side loading on popup roof

Thanks for the Karitek link

If im putting them up there myself, it’s lift the front on, then the back, but normally my wife is about so we can just them straight on. Had looked at the karitek system but I don’t think it’s an easy thing to remove quickly and it therefore wouldn’t fit in the garage.

I can’t see why not but it will be easier with a step ladder / platform to stand on.

This is the reason I've put it on hold for now

I really like them. They have a secure fit on the kayaks. The old van had just a plain steel upright bar and it did allow them to move in strong winds. With the dockgrips they appear rock solid

That's great, thanks for the info.

Finally got the head unit upgraded! It’s a Pioneer Evo64. The aerial was upgraded too, it’ no longer drops DAB in a local spot. Will see how it fairs on longer journeys. Ilkley Car Audio did the work and put additional sound deadening in the cab roof as we get some noise from the roof bars at speed. The aerial is at the front due to the solar panel at the back. It’s also had a tracker fitted. Really pleased with it all.D73EB74F-A937-474A-9969-D0E98B38E7B4.jpeg7ABC533E-15C3-4696-9838-3B96107B27AB.jpeg

@P20. I for one would be interested in some more feedback on that Pioneer once you've used it a bit as I've stopped even bothering to look at availability of the Kenwood DMX8020.
