Hi All

Got a T6 full campervan conversion - I have changed from Claytons with 205/65/16 to 17 "Navis AT 8.5J with 235/65/17 108H tyres, bought a VW steel wheel 7Jx17 with a 215/60/17 tyre on which I want to replace with a tyre to keep the rolling radius the same but when I went into my local independent tyre establishment they were reluctant to supply as they said it need a commercial tyre due to the rating but I was running on the claytons for 2 years before changing the wheels so just want some advice on what tyre I can fit on the 17" steel as a spare to keep to radius the same, it will only be on until I get the flat fixed ?

Thanks

Did you end up finding a solution for this mate? I'm in the same predicament, van had claytons 205 65 16 then changed to oz rally raids 235 65 17. My initial thought was to get a davenport or vw steel 215 60 17 as a spare or change to tyre on it so the diameter is similar.

Hi

I kept with the steel wheel and tyre as in original post, had to move the spare wheel retainer down and use longer bolts to fit it in tho, if worst happens to fronts MIGHT swap rear to front and put spare on rear till fix, only 5mm difference as in above post

Standard carrier on lower setting with 17” vw steel wheel, Michelin cross climate 235 65 17. Fits fine although I did have to deflate the tyre.

I wonder as the wheel is so exposed below and might suffer from corrosion, if any have considered wrapping/covering the wheel or coating it in something appropriate?

I'm trying to think what would be best to not seal any damp in there 🤔.
Ours has been there maybe 12 months now without being looked at

I do not have one but often they can be in place for very extended periods of time. Have seen images of rough looking ones but do not know if mechanically compromised. On 4x4 many use canvas or PVC type covers. Perhaps that might hide a multitude of problems or prevent drying out but salt spray must have an effect and how many of us properly spray water under the car when washing. I do not particularly like under car wheel storage would prefer wheel well within car under a tray in boot area but can imagine the objections. I just wonder if some precautionary things could be done. It is not much fun removing a wheel from under in the dark and rain and then to find a decaying mess or a depreciating accet. cant spell🥲
