Aftermarket Digital Cluster - Guinea Pig

T6 specific this one, they are almost ready with a 5.1, but doubtful there will be a 6.1 since you have an OEM version driving this demand essentially. There is retrofitting options available for 6.1 OEM, appears to be around 1500 mark and also dependant on a donor cluster within approved mileage range for VW to officially sanction the component protection release and adoption of new mileage, from the info I have spotted whilst reading around.
That's a bummer.

Great thread, good that you describe all issues which come with this upgrade. The main problem to me is that as I understand this - this digital cluster is operating over the current circut in a completely "separated" way. By this in fact while using std buttons from steering wheel you navigate over "old menu". So when you do so, you randomly can select and change some options (because in fact this what you see on digital dash is completely independent from the "reality"). Is that true?

If that's a case I think (as afaik) long term it will be always problem, because those are in fact totally separated steering logic and you cannot easily map one to another... Anyway, looks super cool and finger crossed to solve all issues.

Have some questions:

- is ther any way to connect OEM Discovery Media Pro to stream it on digital cluster?
- could anyone measure the exact size of screen, clusters, etc? to me it looks like clusters are smaller than oem analog, and whole readability is a bit less. it looks like could be bigger because there is still a space (for bigger LCD - red lines, or better bigger widget placing - green):

Is there way to control size of clusters or possibility to program widgets by your own (i.e. for developers)?

I can only speak for the Startline, but the only ‘setting’ is the speed warning - all other pages show information.
Correct, there is no other setting which cannot be overidden by the control level held by the virtual. And when you think about it. It's only because the enhancement on the virtual to offset the speedometer to real means some things have to be a degreee separated. It's really very minor in terms of a risk profile for accidental change with associated warnings. Speed alert only really..

SO tomorrow. I plan to put together some helpful videos for the Virtual Dash / Digital Dash / Digidash- this will include (time-stamped):

- Revert from Digital back to analogue (full reverse), i.e. sale or regret (latterly doubtful).
- Full Unboxing of the unit as received, including fitting kit
- Full Install tips and setup, including dash cut & calibration, and usage
- Things to be aware of: Troubleshooting help, i.e. installed speed alert return, dashboard signalling disappearance and known fixes (to date) should you ever experience any of them.

I will try to do it with minimal editing, so let's see how it goes. I must remember not to ramble on, as I tend to do once I get onto my favourite subjects. I am hoping this guide will serve as a decent install reference for the kit to enable you to decide whether to purchase or enquire about supply and fitting: www.everest-vw.co.uk

Either way, if you find it useful, please share with others, and if you feel the need, please like and subscribe, as I will be adding more to the channel, particularly concerning reviewing stuff I have adapted and upgraded on my Cali Ocean over the years, I genuinely thought the list was complete, the list is never complete! We know this now!

(I will post what I have done around the van in another thread just in case others want to quiz me on my life choices)
This would be so helpful with mine on the way and more than happy to like and subscribe to your channel thanks for putting in the work

I’m keen on the digital dash but after reading all of the above, I’m gonna hold off until for a while until it’s more settled in & the bugs have been resolved via updates or newer models etc. Sometimes it doesn’t pay to be part of the first wave. Especially with tech.
Leading edge or bleeding edge: those are the options with new tech implementations

Sorry guys, it's been a busy week, but I did get the best part of a day (between school drops, pick ups and kids clubs). And I've got loads of footage. Unboxing, revert to original, fresh install, setup, tips and tricks. I just want to do one more for full function and demo including my opinions on modes and cast etc. Then it's good to go, I don't want it to be a marathon so I'm going to split the videos into themes and get editing. I've just changed up my monitor to a 49" in my home office from triples so can't wait to get editing on that. #computernerdforlife.

I’ve been getting things ready for @antony.charnley ’s visit and have found a useful feature of VCDS for this. Under module 17: Instruments, Output Tests, there are these options:

I tested my current clocks and can confirm these work. Will test again after the upgrade.

The only test I couldn’t see was the Engine Management Light, but I believe the EML lamp test is bog standard on all vehicles in that the first stage of ignition should show the lamp, then it should go off when fired up.

‘Hot light’ appears to be oil temp above threshold.

This is all I get, I had both of these prior to fitting and they relate to my nav unit being removed (including the dash error). Nothing new appeared.

how cool is it that car scanner free app appears in Android Auto and can then play back live vehicle telematics from a carista. Love that..

That and an occasional seat belt tensioner error from the ABS module because the captain swivel seems to disrupt a dry connection on the seat plug. I've tried all sorts to clean it, dielectric grease etc. So maybe in in the harness wiring..

The layout you see here is the standard view for nav with screen cast plus a press on OK, Pressing ok animates your dials slightly smaller to give more screen cast real estate, another press and the dials max again and you don't see any of the left and right cast screen edges. It's a nice touch

If anyone can disable the speed warning notification sound we are away! Incidentally the digidash has a speaker onboard, and although the original board has a speaker it is not removed. MY thoughts on this are.. the onboard digidash speaker is just to satisfy the initial screen cast since sound is carried to (but can be easily taken back by any paired device). And the original board speaker deals with all system alerts and other things. When I asked China, I was told I would lose turn signal clicks.. but I presume it would be more than just that.

My enquiry was after seeing some installs (probably other vehicles) taking the speaker from the OEM board.

Not possible out of the box with VCDS. @mmi confirmed the error message I saw meant that it wasn’t possible to set it without perhaps a coding change in the module but it’s not known which bit to change, or if it ever will be possible.

It’s not a dealbreaker for me because of the workaround we found together I.e. briefly disconnect the starter battery, but it would make it a neater install if there was a way to code or adapt with VCDS / OBD11.

We will be able to see what that module 17 failure you’ve got there is with VCDS next week, assuming the same occurs on mine or you visit in your Cali.

VCDS does a much better job of providing fault code descriptions.

Maybe we can see if there's anything on the DSG too can you do the dsg basic calibration reset and synchro on there?
