Aftermarket Digital Cluster - Guinea Pig

Disconnected the airbag switch near the passenger door, started the ignition to stage 1 and I got an airbag failure message and an airbag fault light, as expected. Cleared it with VCDS as normal.

Then disconnected a headlight at the headlight enclosure, and got a bulb warning.

So far so good. Still pondering the best way to force an EML or ABS warning.

To be fair the ignition start is a self test, I'm going to see what it does when I try and move the ocean (not in a Jesus way) whilst the roof is up. That's quite an obscure capture for them. I think certain warnings are translated to equivalent graphics so they must have been able to access the full programed capability of the OEM.

I think that was Moses. :)

Two questions guys:
- could anyone measure diameter of digital clusters? I wanna compare to analog ones
- on analog I have turned on needle sweep test on init - is this also on digital?

I have dual mass flywheel replacement booked in with A P Transmissions on Monday. Est. £1900 exc.VAT. when the EML came up I suspected it might be related. But alas it was another old favourite in the forum, glow plug 4! Maybe the DMFR is shaking it too much, anyway. EML beeped once and the light remained on as normal. Cleared down for now and gone, for now..

Decided to try out the driving assist menu and track car distances on the radar for a while to distract me from the wallet emptying that is going on next week..

Sorry to hear about the punch to the wallet.

Good to know the EML functions normally though. Small consolation, I know.

I have a question relating to the T5.1 (shh don't tell anyone I don't have a T6 ). Do you know why do they need to create a specific version when the OEM dash units are interchangeable between 5.1 and 6?

They are saying the frame needs to be quite different to fit. They are also working on a 6.1 which is going to be coming soon. I'm going to be ordering a 5.1 for a customer in the next batch.

I did a Scirrocco last week, that was a pleasure to fit. And have an Amarok coming up too. Everyone has been so pleased with the outcome. Better setup and trust pilot and capture the feedback.

IMG_5637.jpegIMG_5632.jpegHi guys,
I just had a digital dash done by Antony at Everest Vw.
Got to say am so happy with it.10/10 It’s awesome, I think it looks great and really easy to navigate round.
My journey started by messaging him and quickly ended up on the phone with him. He’s a very likeable guy and similar to me with mods and taste. A hour on the phone went very fast!

I ended up buying the unit off him and wanted to give it ago doing myself.
He was super supportive of this and we ended up face timing whilst I was doing the difficult parts.

Knowing what I know now I would probably just pay him to install but I want to say I managed it to 98% of it. Lol

Where I went wrong was installing the harness into the back of the new dash. Embarrassingly I drove up to him and he fixed it secs.

It wasn’t a wasted drive as his craftsmanship is superb. He tidied up my messy bits and also installed my ghost 2 as I had removed it thinking it was interfering with my new dash (that wasn’t the case).

He’s a smart bloke and has a lot more patience’s than me.

For anyone who is considering giving it ago it’s not too hard it’s just he’s got so much more experience and finesse I would consider using him.

Hey @antony.charnley: couple of observations to make from my drive out today.

1. If you remember, my speed warning had been put on by accident. I was quite prepared to knock it off by doing the starter terminal trick but… it wasn’t on! Wonder if there is a timer on it. Hadn’t driven for 48 hours.

2. I noticed a new (to me) option in the driving data menu - speed warning.

Wonder if this latest firmware has solved it?

Im reasonably sure speed warning has always been an option in the virtual - It would be software only within the Linux virtual dash OS for sure, since you can calibrate your speed it's the only way It could be doing it I think, OEM board reading OEM speeds only.

So your speed warning went by itself? or wasn't showing as latched on in VCDS but still bonged?
