Mate these look class. Did you paint these yourself? If so which paint/colour did you use?
Hi Fintank, I had them powder coated by South West Wheel Repairs in Exeter, they did a cracking job. I don’t know the exact name of the colour. When I took the wheels in I knew I wanted bronze, he showed me a couple of options and that’s how they turned out.

BFG AT KO2 225/65/17 would be as large as I would personally go, not due to width as 255's are fine width wise, its the diameter/rolling radius that starts to become more problematic.
the 225/65/17 are 4.8% larger than standard sizes.
So the gearing is upped by 4.8%; the wheel is 33mm larger in diameter; which is 16mm radius, so the van sits 16mm higher; the wheel arch gap is closed 16mm all the way around.
You can go upto about 7.5% larger, but the drivability of the van will start to suffer in terms of gear changing positions; acceleration etc etc.
Also with the larger tyre, you may not want to drop the van by more than 30mm, if you choose to drop it at all.
You may not need wheel spacer with the 225/65/17, but if you go larger you will need them because it will catch the inner plastic arch liner on full lock, or during larger suspension compressions.
For me it is 225/65/17 in the sizes available for BFG AT KO2's

Hi - I’m new to owning a T6 and currently deciding to change over stock tyres and wheels to modular steels with AT tyres. My concern is ride height, and as you’ve mentioned here the bigger tyres and 17” wheels clearly raise the overall ride height.

Im currently debating whether to go for 16 wheels with 235/70/16 tyres or 17 wheels with 235/65/17 tyres.

Do you know which out of these two options will keep the ride height increase minimal? It feels like a catch 22 as one tyre is bigger, and the other the wheel bigger.

Thanks

I’d be grateful if anyone could help me please. I’d like to fit AT tyres to my T6.1 but I am using my van daily for work (plumber) and therefore 98% of my driving is on normal roads and motorways. It seems silly to fit AT tyres as my fuel consumption will be compromised, but I really love the look of them.

Is there such thing as a road tyre with the look of an AT tyre. Or perhaps an AT tyre that performs like a normal road tyre?

thanks

I've lost about 4mpg with my K02's. Over 100 miles that's about £3.

Over the life of the tyre, say 50'000 (so they say) that's about £1500.

Driving through a snow blizzard or a Boggy field with a grin on your face, priceless.

Really depends how you look at it. It's all about smiles per gallon for me.

Also, general grabbers AT3's didn't seem to affect my consumption when I had them on an Amarok.

Who is they? I'd love to get 50K from a tyre. My van's on 54K miles and on it's third front tyres as far as I know (though the guy I bought from was running bigger wheels for at least 6K), so 25K miles at the most (GoodYear Marathon)

"As of 2020, BFGoodrich has updated the warranty associated with the T/A KO2 and now offers a 50,000 mile tread life warranty. Now there’s no more guessing or relying on what some random guy with a Jeep said 8 years ago."

Update:
Just looked a bit further into this. Apparently it's for a K02 with DT. "Different tread" that gets the 50k warranty. Still, the general reviews are 30k+ on these bad boys.

Ŵould love the look shown in Arrows pictures. Been thinking about it for ages! My only hesitation relates to mpg and road noise.

question: I only have the wheels/tyres that are on my van so how long would it take to get them powdercoated and refit?

There is a place near me that does it in a day. Im sure there must be ones near you that do the same.

Road Noise just turn your radio up louder lol ........ im getting on great with my Ko's not to noisy my MPG on an empty van made no difference

Now i have all my extreme insulation, leisure battery, heavy swivel seat , Cupboards and bed in and the Holiday kit, fishing gear, cloths, and some food and water chairs, carpets, awning oh i forgot the Guinness and Rose Cider loads of it .. so its all that, that made the difference... not the Tyres

getting pushed off a tiny grass verge denting my back doors made me get them to start with... if you only ever have hard standing pitches you wont need them.... camping in a field you do.... the risk far out ways a little MPG

and running your air con uses much more fuel ..... im running them on 50 psi ... on a T30 with standard factory shocks

and camp sites are going to be full for a good few years to come ..... so we will be in the touring fields a lot i reckon

Yea, to be honest, I've added a fair bit of weight to my van with sound deadening etc so that's probably contributed to my MPG decrease as well. Forgot about that.

I put my Van on axle stands, whipped them off & handed them into the powder coater, picked them up the following night £200 lighter. Not bad!

The road noise is a slightly noticeable rumble but It's not something to worry about. Cruising at 60 I don't think I even hear it.

Hi,

Complete newbie to the T6 world but have read all of this thread with interest.. great content!

I have a T6 102 2017 reg that has no mods. I wish to put the following on:

  • Tuff Torque 17" x 8" .. they have an offset of 40
  • Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus 225/65 R17 102H
Some Qs:
  • Will this combo work on standard suspension?
  • Will I need any spacers or will 40mm be enough?
  • As it is a T28 will the load rating of 102 be sufficient / legal?
Any guidance very welcome.
Thanks
Nick

Would love some advice please. I took off my standard tyres (215/60r17) and put on BFG 225/65r17 and had the wheels powder coated. When I dropped the wheels off to be powder coated the garage put substitute wheels on. I drove a mile away and a wheel came off. Fortunately I was travelling very slowly. The garage came right out put the wheel back on and my car went into another garage who replaced wheel bearing and hub assembly, brakes & discs and had tracking done. The wheel coming off really shook me up and I am so nervous about my tyre set up now as I changed them based on information I found on this thread and no professional has looked at my van and said that is ok. I know it is unreasonable but I am worried all the time I am driving now. I would be grateful for reassurance that putting the larger tyres on the wheels that are meant for 215 is ok and nothing is going to fall off. Also, the garage replaced the locking wheel nut - are we meant to have special locking wheel nuts on vans because these seem to be regular locking wheel nuts. Thank you very much. I've lost it. I'm worried about everything now. Vans looking good though.IMG_3846.jpeg

This isn't really about the tyres though? For peace of mind the garage needs to be telling you why the wheel came off?

Or the second garage can give your van a once over - sounds like they have and reassure you that way?

Wheel place couldn't explain - they used my wheel nuts. The only obvious explanation is they weren't done up. They paid cash for work done and haven't supplied receipts just written confirmation. Thinking for peace of mind I should go to another garage to check everything out and for reassurance re tyres & wheels but if tyres are different to the ones on door label will they say ok? Wondering what sort of specialist I should look for.

Yeah it isn’t a tire issue, I’ve got the same tires and powder coated rims, did a 30,000km on road and off road trip around Australia without a issue.

the garage has stuffed up, and the rims weren’t fitted properly, it’s possible they forgot to tighten the nuts.

im sure they will double check this time, but I’d stick to a tire shop from now on, for a wheel alignment and rotation

Great to hear you've done 30,000 on same tyres & wheels. Thanks for letting me know.

Right, lets look at facts and probabilities; (correct me if I'm wrong)
You've driven x number of miles on your wheels (thousands), no problems, the garage puts substitute wheels on and a mile later a wheel comes off.
That has to be the fault of the garage fitting the substitute wheels, now that matter has been resolved, relax and enjoy!
