Autohaus, Minehead

Yep. I have an Autohaus Ashton campervan (VW T6.1 Highline) that I bought in March 2022. My experience has been generally very positive - good people to collaborate with when trying to spec your camper van, good quality conversion, on time, good aftersales support to help with any queries or issues. I'd have no hesitation recommending them. I chose them after a personal recommendation from a friend who also had a positive experience. We are loving our Autohaus campervan.

I picked up my new Ashton 94 at the end July this year from their factory in Minehead. This being my first camper van we are so happy with it, and the quality of the conversion is first class. Had to phone them with couple of questions regarding operations of certain controls and what they do and they have been most helpful.

I’d have to say I have been less than impressed when I contacted them WRT some of the conversion they did on the van I have. One of the partners in the business was most rude & unhelpful to me & also when Marshalls contacted them on my behalf.

Initial conversion work was done for Marshall VW Bridgwater who I bought from @ 6months old.

Basically mostly the 12v/240v electrics wiring leaves a little to be desired which @Dav-Tec pointed out to me.

I’ve had issues with the diesel heater fuel lines being plumbed incorrectly & am currently in the process of sorting paintwork issues with the front body kit they fitted/painted.

Maybe mine was a COVID Friday PM built down to a price specd by Marshalls (I dunno) but I personally wouldn’t deal with them having had a few other things pointed out by 8ball campers who have helped resolve things as well as Chris @Dav-Tec

Happy with our Autohaus Ashton, bought in February this year.

One or two follow-up questions answered quickly and one after-sales warranty fix very promptly dealt with, plus some free maintenance thrown in whilst we were there - I personally don't recognise the attitude described in the post above. Also, our electrical installation looks very neatly and carefully wired, in the areas that I can see at least.

I would recommend based on experience so far.

Cheers folks. They're Ashton '94 has caught my eye. At 50k for a highline conversion brand new, it seems to represent great value for money. Am going to go and have a chat at the brummy camper show.

Nice enough people but they did get part of our conversion wrong and then tried to blame us. Despite us showing all our written paper work which was handed to them detailing quite in depth the spec we wanted (And paid for)

Unfortunately, the missing items could not be added as they had completed the conversion and not allowed the space. so, I had no choice but to settle I was very disappointed.
The main guy was ok but seems easily distracted and that’s why they messed up a quite important part for me. He had not passed on the requirements properly. We also had to fight to get some money back for the things he did not do or fit. Fortunately we had plenty of proof and they had no choice.

Part of the issue was he believed the items I wanted were not necessary and argued the point. I however chose the spec I wanted and paid for it and was told that if that’s what I wanted that’s what I would get. What I actually got was what he thought I should have.

The van however (despite the missing items) was done to a high standard and all works as it should. It was just very disappointing

Very helpful to me... spoken on the phone to Steve head honcho a few times about some questions I had last Summer shortly after buying from a dealer. (No manual with the van). And again he went above and beyond to help me with a hinge I broke on the wardrobe door. I forgot to close the door when putting the bed back and broke it. He has sent me a new (now discontinued hinge) to fix back in. No charge. Nice. Just got to fix it. It's been 4 months now and door held on with duct tape, oops.

Does anyone know what's happened to Autohaus in Minehead? Their website has gone and the phone goes straight to a recorded BT answering service.

I noticed this morning that the website was not working I do hope that they have not gone under.

Their Instagram & Facebook pages have gone as well
Looking at their (Acare) companies house entry a director resigned 10th Jan 25' maybe coincidental??

The only recent resignation is Chris Payne (son of the owner). Others are a few years ago. Very sadly indeed it seems they must have closed down. I wonder if someone will take them over?

It was announced today, called in administrators

There is an automated e-mail response confirming that they have entered administration and the factory is now closed. Such a sad end to a high quality converter and good people. Their new C600 Crafter conversion was top of my list - will now have to start looking around.

I wonder if some small 'phoenix' of employees will rise from this nearby?
Or is the financial climate just that poor that they have given up....

I think its just the market at the moment. There were hundreds of converters start up with the Covid boom and the market seems to be correcting now. They certainly wont be the last, I don't think.
