awning rails... magnetic or fixed?

No problem, it was the Kampa trip air, no damage at all, used screw in pegs, so it was just the constant tugging that worked the plastic along enough for the Kador to pull out of the end and then once it started it carried on.
Relieved to hear this....our Vango Palm always tries to work its way out of the rail even in the best of times. Thinking about it, so does our Debus Canopy but we use the little Kampa Rail clips in the end of the rail which stops them escaping!

I’ve had exactly the same thoughts, I only want a very small awning but I haven’t found anything magnetic that’s strong enough to take even the mildest breeze.
I’m still considering the use of removable suction cups to secure the awning and a light magnetic strip to get some form of seal wIth the van body to prevent drips.
There are a huge variety of suction cups online, best of all they are not permanent. I’m trying to avoid nailing anymore stuff to the outside of the van.
im using suction cups on a rear barn door awning my poor paint work when things get gritty on a site field. a rail properly fitted and sealed wont leak

You can get awning rail stoppers that slip into the rail and then you tighten a screw to stop the kadar sliding out

Any advice welcome regarding a magnetic awning rail, please. The magnetic strip is not strong enough to hold my awning, is there any way I can increase the magnets’ strength by adding magnets? Or any other suggestions for railings without having to install one. I have a pop top on my van. Thanks

Awning rail all the way magnetic ones are brilliant in concept total pants in practicality

Depending on pop top can always go for a hidden awning rail

It’s a west dubs pop top. Is a hidden awning rail installed?

They fit under the pop top hinge depending on pop top, they run in the original roof gutter
Or failing that go for a California style one they come preshaped from vw and are bonded on

Do you not have to screw these on as well as bond?

Opinions please!

Going camping in a week... left everything to last minute as usual. Have the kador which came with the awning but no way to attach it.

Need a way to attach the awning for camping a few times a year. Have no roof bars as garage let me down but I've read that a magnetic attachment wouldn't work with roof bars anyway? Have also read the magnetic ones aren't very strong so assuming will also need some straps and foam or something to protect the van?

Or.... get a rail attached to the van. I'm not looking to do it myself so would need to find someone Gloucestershire way to do it for me... this week. Probably not an option . But would this be better long term and get magnetic for next week?

Would be good to hear from people have tried either/ both options.

THANKS :D

Camper essentials to a really good one that’s reasonably priced and they’re really easy to fit yourself. Just screw onto the existing holes on your roof. They have other designs depending whether you’ve got a pop top or roof bars already fitted.

Also have a read of this thread about how to fit them. The bolts and washers he uses Prevents any water getting in your van

Thanks for that! I like the look of that one, tucks away nicely as well. Will see if it can be delivered in time.... although still worried about fitting myself in case it leaks. I'm not DIY minded in any way... I superglue everything and hope for the best

Just fitted one of these, easy enough and looks a treat cause you can't see it... Just squirt some silicone into the bolt hole 1st, then the large rubber washer supplied over the hole followed by the rail and finally use the original VW bolt (with rubber washer) to tighten it all down. Simples....

Ok thank you, you've convinced me to give it a go!

It really is not too difficult, in fact if you have not got roof bars and you have a rubber washer below the rail and the OEM washer and bolt above you wont need any silicone. It wouldn't do any harm if you did use some either.
