@Rugbus I've been looking to the steel option....Detroit Steels looked good.....then I found out they are only load rated to 691kgs.....so no good for a T32 and the class 7 MoT.....what load rating are the banded steels from Essex Banded Steels? ..........I'm also looking at Coilovers but they only drop 70mm....what suspension have you used to get a 80mm drop?

This is giving me a headache!.....I'm thinking ......if I get time.......as I'm doing my research I might put together a list of wheels that are T32 compatible (no offense T28/T30 owners).

@Stevehf2 I just can't find any steels 19"/20" that are load rated.....if there was one market that needs to be filled in the VW world it's probably this :(

These guys do a bunch of steels that are up to 18"
Home
I enquired about their 17" wheels and was told that they are load rated to 1180Kg.

I also had another conversation with someone who said that they are working on some steels larger than 18" for the T5/T6.

These do look quality but I’m just wondering what’s the legality on banded steels these days?

@Jamie2.0 my concerns to....I'm looking for a steel that's not banded.....the search isn't going to well though

On our 65 bug I have re-rims (core from old wheel in new rim) 15 x 6 vw wide 5 on standard vw off set but had too get these from the states. Figure this has got to be a better way but still only as good as the jigs used and fabricator on the day.

Messaged the company that do the banding for the 19" range rover space savers I've acquired, asked him to future proof them if eventually go air this is his reply .
Don't want to get this wrong only want to do this once so what can I get away with on fronts and back with air

Hi Andy, what your best doing is test fitting then and measure out to check how much clearance you have to play with on both front and back. Then decide how much you’d like adding to them

It might be worth chatting to @Yeti899, he's already done this on air.

On the same subject, i've just put those banded 18s on the Sales section that I got yesterday. They just don't work for me on my van which i'm gutted about because I love banded steels and the cleaning benefits would of so been worth it!

Saw these babies at Stanford Hall today and they looked monstrous on a T5. The dish was immense.

they look like the 19s I'm doing, gutted that your banded wheels don't look right this is my worry if I get it wrong , will drop yeti899 and msg cheers pal, nice day for a vw show, did you enter for show & shine ?

No mate, Stanford Hall has a lot of nice stuff, but more geared up for the classic and old school hot hatches.

They are the 19" Range Rover wheels and they looked stunning on this T5, but it was on the floor and a light colour, so worked really well.
I think they didn't work on mine because I have this vast amount of very high shiny Black, then the Silver wheels, and it just didn't work. Plus my side bars, splitter etc, is just not the right look on steels in my opinion.

Couldn't you get away with powder coating them bronze or gold ?

Trust me, i've been through every option and nothing works. No one gets more disheartened than I get when something doesn't work looks wise, and I was really excited to get these on, but I know i'd throw more money at colour changing, then tyres and then have them off within a few weeks, so for once i'm being sensible.

Like you, I wanted my current 19s gone, and the Range Rover wheels ordered, but that's out the window now, because I know they won't work on mine either. However, you'd be amazed on how good these things look in the flesh! They look huge:eek:

I've got the tyres off them and they are sitting at the side of the house and yes they look massive for steels

How you getting on with this project @andythom188?
I only ask because i've just done a deal on a set of staggered 9"and 9.5" and wondered if I would beat you to it
