Best ice scraper, Screen Covers and Heated Washer Jets

well, its arrived.. . . . . . .

1671211524382.png

its a bit of a faff to get on . . .

1671211548943.png1671211561690.png1671211575638.png

the quality seems Meh, . . . . . as its just a rubber sheet with material backing. (no sure its worth the cost IMHO)

cut to fit over the doors with a door corner pocket.

and a cut-out for the side mirrors with a strip of Velcro.

maybe as a camping blackout screen it might work out well. . . ?

but as a snow and ice cover I'm (personally) not convinced. ( no offence )

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

compared to the multilayer one i got for the car . . . . that i much prefer.

on that note, here is the car from earlier. . . its still below 0 at night and very icy.

1671211866108.png1671211876171.png1671211893372.png

its doing any awesome job keeping snow and ice off the windscreen.

its super easy to fit, just throw it on and shut the wings in the door.

the snow and ice dont stick to it, so it shakes off ok.

and its quick and simple.

so.... . . . .

i think ill keep the T6 specific Black one for a "Rainy Day" lol ( or a summer day/night ) - as a camping blackout blind.

and get another Silver one for the Van.

ill have a measure up and post which one i decide to go for.

+++

ill keep testing this one untill the new one arrives . . .

but i think the temp is rising over the next few days so maybe wont need a snow/ice shield?

either way traditionally JAN & Feb are the COLD months for us in London . . .

Slightly off track question, do the heated washer jets come on with the heated front screen?

Slightly off track question, do the heated washer jets come on with the heated front screen?
From memory they are always live once the ignition is on.

But I'd have to check the schematic to be sure.

Defo not connected to the heated screen.

Isn’t the best ice scraper the same person who warms up a cold bed (not me)?

oooh i didn't know this!

so would they be on a 16 Plate Highline Kombi??
It depends on the original build spec. (I think on mine it was part of the vision-pack?)

But you can tell by looking at the passenger bonnet hinge to see if you have just a water pipe....

Or water pipe and wires.

If it's got wires it will have heated jets.

It's a bit dark to get a pic...

It's the tips of the jets that freeze. The freezing point of the screenwash is more about preventing it from freezing when it hits the windscreen. My replacement heated screen misses a strip right in front of me. I have to wait until it's melted before driving off. If I move off with a strip of ice on the screen, with the freezing air blasting at it, it will never melt. At least now jets are under the bonnet. In the old days when they were on the top of the bonnet, heated or not, it stood no chance.

Todays update . . . . .

the black sheet has worked ok in stopping any ice forming . . .

1671270965622.png1671270980374.png

its a bit of a faf as you need to take it off (just the door section) the door to open it . . . ( or am i just very impatient with these things ? )

1671271032646.png

as for the car . . . . .

its frozen solid still . . . .

1671271080757.png

1671271094208.png

the wife is heading out in it . . . so lets see how this cover has done.

door open and its looks ok so far . . . no signs of water

1671271158975.png

peeling it back more . . .

1671271178432.png

and then fully off. . . .

1671271198807.png

the only ice on the screen is here . . . . . but its inside the car . . .lol !!!!! thats nutts.

1671271236567.png

with a quick shake off we have this. . . .

1671271268869.png

and this on the back . . . .

1671271295232.png

so all in all id say that's a success . . . . .

all i had to do was run the engine for a few mins to warm the inside while using a scraper and ice liquid stuff on the side windows.

jobs a goodun. . . . .

with enough time for a dogwalk before breakfast. . .

HEATED WASHER JETS

following on from this. . . . its daylight and we can get some pics. . . .

open the bonnet and look here:

1671271700368.png

on mine we see two tubes, one for the screenwash and one for the wires. . .

1671271748423.png

those pipes and wires go though the bonnet to the jet assembly's . . .

1671271790333.png

you can also double check at the jets themselves. . . . .

thet can be popped out from the front edge. . . . .

1671271837043.png

there you can see the water pipe and electrical connection for the heated jets. . . and part number . .

1671271874835.png

they just push back in . . . but dont do what i did and push it into the bonnet cavity

1671271925281.png

i managed to get it back out . . . and now its clipped in properly.

1671271982112.png

there we go . . .

and for the power, you can see the OEM fitment here:

which shows the two heaters being fed from fuse SC25 10A ( with rear wiper if fitted)

right so I've spent the last hours looking at covers and measuring, then remeasuring the van . . .

+++

it seems the T6 screen is 150cm width at the top.

and 170cm width at the bottom.

then 90 to 100cm height depending on the wipers etc etc. . . .

so I've found this 150cm x 120cm XL version that should fit.

it looks to be the same 4 layer as the car one,

and has the side wings to lock in the door.

and seems to come with mirror covers too, which is a bonus.

it also have some internal magnets to attach to the car./van - but the reviews say that they are week - but im not worried about that.

I've ordered one and will test it out . . . . .
