Big service quote, am I being ripped off?

Just had a cambelt, water pump, auxiliary belt and an oil and filter change, all genuine parts at my local garage.
£280 for parts
£250 for labour
I admit I got the parts myself from TPS
Sounds a bargain, not sure if anyone could match that.

Had the following done over the last 2 years at VW Liverpool commercial.
EGR and coolant about £600.
Belt and service £1100
Clutch and service £1400.
Prices seem right to me to what I paid. Mines a 16 plate Euro 5 on 60k if that's any help to you. I didn't know any other indies and don't really trust little garages as I've not really had any decent cars for years so I decided to make sure I got a bit of piece of mind (insurance) by going to the dealers especially with EGR and belt problems on these vans.

It could just be a hose leaking, if I took my van in for a normal service and was given a 3k quote I’d say, Ill be back in 3 months, don’t be worried about saying not today thanks, that’s way above my budget at the moment.
Get the work done as and when you have the time and funds.

Yeah as green giant said, get it all done when funds allow. My EGR went and it had to be done but got the belt done for piece of mind really.

Thanks for the replies @Green Giant & @JDC . Need what needs doing sharpish as got a Europe trip planned end of May, but equally don’t want to be ripped off and be forking out £3K.

Think I’ll ring around some garages first thing to see if I can get anything cheaper.

Agreed, don't go trekking round Europe with a coolant leak - that's asking for trouble, but £806 for a new radiator and coolant is an absolute rip off.
I can get a new radiator for my T6 for £380 and it'd be a couple of hours of my time to fit it.

(That's for my T6, might not fit yours.)

I think the quote is damn expensive and I'd be taking it somewhere else .
They obviously are a specialist that like to charge their money 💰 (I know some like that too) .

I went through 3 x rear coils on my T6 (T30) over 40k miles.
Finally replaced with KYB heavy duty items - total cost including fitting was £330.00 at a local garage.
Hope this helps

Yes it’s definitely something that needs sorting, but believe it is abit steep quote. I told them to leave that for now, been trying to get quotes all morning to compare.

Just put my reg in on your link and saying £280.

Thanks for that. I spoke to a local garage this morning, although he couldn’t give me an accurate quote, he said roughly £60 per spring and 1-2 hours labour. Probably similar to your price.

I’ve told the service garage to leave it for now.

I got delivery miles springs off ebay, as they are often taken off by converters, and a mate and I swapped both springs in under an hour despite never having done them before. That was on a four-post lift, so about an hours labour.

Book time is 1.0hrs to replace both.
