Blackvue Dashcam Install

Thought I would post a few photos of the Blackvue cameras that I fitted in the Kombi at the weekend.

I have the Blackvue 650s 2-Channel Cameras and a Power Magic Pro which I mounted in the passenger footwell. I brought the power cable across from the fuse panel and up the passenger side A-pillar then across the top of the screen to the camera position, plenty of power cable with the spare coiled up and the base of the A-pillar. I also managed to find spare ignition live and permanent live in the fuse panel which with the Power Magic Pro allows the cameras to run when the van is parked and it protects the battery dropping below either 12v or 12.5v depending on how you set the switches.

The rear camera is powered via the coax cable fed from the front camera. The position of the rear camera is mounted just above the rear wiper motor and was not my preferred location. I wanted to mount the camera at the top of the rear screen but the size of the holes in the frame of the tailgate wouldn't allow the connector to pass through so had to route the cable down through the tailgate and out by the motor cover.

Routing the coax cable across the roof was fairly simple after I took the hardboard roof down but the cable that ships with the cameras was only just long enough, its not tight but there is literally no spare.

Hi. I've just installed an auto Vox x2 which I piggy back into an ignition live but I wanna purchase a power magic pro and connect to permanent live. Do you know which fuse has a permanent live ?
from your photos I guess its the one on the right ? as the middles one, 3rd row is the same one I have it installed atm.

@Stefan
I've just got an autovox too, still need fit it

How you like it ?
I like the idea of a mirror screen, the large screen, that it records front and back at the same time, that I can have the rear cam on while driving but I expected the video quality to be better. I have dab interference where in lots of areas it cuts out, whereas before I had no issues. I/ve used ferrite core on each cable, near the camera and the power source but still no results. I wonder if has to do that I wired the cables through the passenger a pillar and down to fuse box. Some people say that the dab aerial is housed in side the drivers mirror and other saying its in the passenger one. So confused..

I have it on ignition live atm but want to get a magic power box and have it on permanent live.

oh and the main issue I have with my auto Vox x2 is that it came with the front cam lens with a scratch on it. It didn't have any protection on as the rear one. Looked on youtube for few unboxing videos to see if they do ship it with no protection film on the lens and some had and some didn't. Do you mind checking if yours has or had if unboxed already? I've emailed auto Vox about it and waiting to see what they say. I feel like it doesn't focus properly.

other than that all good.

Had a look, NO protective film, but looks in good nick !
Wonder how i will get on too

Thanks

Hi all, I have bought a blackvue front and rear dash cam and iv just fitted all the cameras in with the wiring to the rear one. Iv purchased the magic pro hard wire kit for the parking mode and I’m struggling with were to connect the red ACC(+) and yellow BATT (+) to the fuse box. Have the piggy back fuses to connect, I can’t find the fuse diagram of what’s what. Any help will be grateful.

I fitted the exact same ' park mode' box to my defender, it was utter s*ite and I ended up throwing it away. Three times I came back to a flat battery after a few days once it was gone no further issues.

I’ll see how I get on with it then, may be goin back to Halfords for a refund then

Anything middle row is ign live. Anything else is permanent live

fitted my dashcam today with a hard wire kit - went for the middle row as suggested and it seems the camera only powers up when the engine is running and as soon as the engine stops it goes off even with the key in the ign switch at position 1. Have I picked the wrong fuse to piggy? It was a 10a prob 4 or 5 slots down.

Also noticed many of the empty fuse slots seem to have a connector one side - is this like a buzzbar and just needs a connector the other side and an appropriate fuse to make a new circuit?

You sure it’s not a setting in the dash cam that’s maybe sensing a higher voltage from the alternator before turning on? Check the feed with a meter to confirm but I thought the whole middle row is IGN live

Yes

Now getting an oil/check text warning on the dash - funny thats the fuse I used for the piggy back.

Thinking through the ‘spare’ slots with +ve inbound (on a buzzbar) and no outbound circuit - there is no reason why I couldnt plug the piggyback connector into one of these?! Someone will probably say thats what you should have done!

Finally, I noted the camera only comes on when key at position 2 - I think this will be OK and keeps running when stop/start switches engine off. I was just thinking of the scenario parked up, key in but engine off.

Are there any fuses that are live when ign key at position 1? Off out with the multimeter!

Can I ask a question as I am considering have the F800 Pro fitted front and rear. Due to the lack of daily use I am concerned that the battery may be effected and go flat.
Plus I am considering having the Autowatch Ghost fitted at the same time.
Will either or both drain the battery if the van is not used daily, T6 T32 150 2018, does anyone have any experiences with these when fitted?
Cheers

@Dellmassive sorry to resurrect an old thread Dell but how are you getting on with the 900S. Mine very rarely fires up in the morning, drive a mile and kill and restart the van and it powers up but will shut down with the stop/start. Had the van serviced yesterday and got them to check the Moll battery which came back all OK. Looking for advice thanks

Mine great, love it.

It working fine..

Mines powered from an ignition feed so it powers up as soon as the key is turned in the morning and shuts down when key is removed.

How and where is yours powdered from?.... post some pics etc

@Dellmassive fitted by Halfords using the power magic pro. In theory mine is supposed to do the same as yours but it’s just not happening. I always suspected the battery because of the issues with Moll but like I said the dealership checked that yesterday.

interesting how did you get that cable into the tailgate ?

Sorry to highjack the thread. Here’s a picture of my setup which i did recently. My rear camera is mounted at the top of the tailgate rather than on the wiper motor. I had to drill a hole in the tailgate to facilitate this. Cable is routed from the front camera through the roof (near side along with all the other cables), through the flexi boot into the tailgate and then across inside the tailgate to the centre where i drilled the hole. I have a Thinkware Q800Pro. The downside of this is that the rear camera uses a micro USD cable so has a connector pre moulded onto it which makes feeding it through panelwork tricky. If you drill where I did be careful not to go too far as the high level brake light sits right above this point. I managed to break mine but thankfully it glued back together very well and doesn’t leak (not yet anyway). In some ways this was a blessing as I was then able to access the back of the hole I had drilled via the slot where the brake light sits. I’m just waiting for a rubber grommet to arrive to pop in the hole now (ordered the wrong size initially).
