My missus is from South Molton and she is in agreement with you on the clotted cream, no argument there but on our last trip to Cornwall we were won over by the pasties down there

A team. Where they could manufacture an Abrams tank from a milk bottle, a zippo and a hedge trimmer in less than 2 minutes. Quality stuff.

Dont forget Airwolf, Knight Rider, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Roger's (Beedee beedee beedee, Gee Buck) and Space 1999.

Has anyone gone back to work yet? Specially the self employed. I know that might seem like a daft question given the current circumstances, but i've noticed a fair amount of my mates and guys I know in similar industries to mine and going back today. Those that I speak to on a friendly level are all saying the same, they have no choice but to get back to work now. The pure lack of no direction from the government when questioned about any kind of time scale, even a very optimistic one is just leaving many people with no option, but to risk it.

Some of the building trade never stopped
My sons been working in Windsor Castle, because it’s a government project that’s ok apparently
All the distancing rules etc put in place

What do you do?
What do they mean by no choice?
I have many friends that are self employed that have applied for the grants from government. They have decided to stay at home......one of them has an NHS nurse as a wife and gets proper angry when he hears people risking lives for no good reason.
There is always a choice.....it just depends on what the indervidual classes as no choice.
Everyone is suffering in some way......either by losing family members or being short on money for a while.
I'd rather be short on money and do my bit to save family members and not risk other people's family. But that's just my opinion.
I'm also in a privileged position of still being at work due to my work place being very easy to adhere to social distancing. Albeit at reduced hours.
It's a difficult time but we will pull through if we all do our bit.

I'm not disputing any of what you've said, I just wondered if anyone else has decided to go back for financial reasons, and not eligible for any government help.
My position is an odd one. We only work on Caravans and Motorhomes, but when we made the decision to postpone everything at the beginning of all this, my customers were pretty much all supportive and agreed that having work carried out on a Caravan or Motorhome was not essential, even more so that they cannot use them anyway.
The car detailing industry seem to be totally different and their customers do want their work doing.
By no choice, I mean financially and if they didn't do the work required, the customers would just move to a company that does, so a double blow for those guys.

Is a tough one isn't it.
Detailers usually have a very loyal customer base. Once you find a good one you tend not to stray. I know I use the same guy for my vehicles when I don't do them myself. So their main customers will come back.
Are these detailers mobile or do they have a fixed address. I myself have to drive to my 1 place of work and that is deemed acceptable. If a detailer has his or her own place of work then going to that place of work I don't see an issue with.
A detailed vehicle is going to probably be the most Corona virus free item out there.
The only issue I see is the customer getting the vehicle to them. Maybe the detailer can pick the vehicle up and return it.
It's all a bit up in the air isn't it.
As for working on a van or motor home....I don't see no problem with that either.
Most jobs done in isolation there too.
Unless I'm missing something blindingly obvious.

Yes
I suppose people’s loyalty doesn’t sit in the right place for some things
Damned if they do damned if they dont
Catch 22 situation for some

After all and when we’re back to normal surely we should start manufacturing our own products
We have proved we have the capabilities to do so
Possible comes down to if people are willing to pay a bit more fore British and jobs

I run a specialist cutting company that has key worker status but there is not enough work coming in for us to continue to stay open and a lot of my suppliers have also closed. Up to and including the Monday of the first Government announcement three weeks ago, we were working 6 days a week. The after the announcement everything just stopped. The Government has done more damage to the economy by not being clear.

That concept applies to most things we import and I'd love to understand why it's not viable for this country to get back to manufacturing like we used to.
Surely the offset of more money for products against a potentially more productive country in general would balance each other out. I don't suspect it's that simple, but I'd love to understand the depths of that conundrum.

Totally agree
The description is left totally wide open for some (minority) to bend the rules

I feel for you I really do.....but I'm wondering how clear they can be. If they said 4 weeks then lock down is up would be be moaning at them when they extend it by another 2 weeks because the science says to do it.
Its a very bad economical problem that we will be paying for decades to come.
But if it can keep my parents and friends alive for another 20years then that is a trade off we are having to make at the moment.
It's very hard to find a right path for everyone. Hopefully the antibody test is working and starts to be mass reproduced sooner rather than later.
I'm gonna stop commenting now before I put anyone's nose outa joint. Don't want to disrespectful to anyone with my views that may not work for all.
All the best to everyone at this very trying time.
