Bulb out warning light

Hi all,

Wife pointed out ‘bulb out’ light illuminated today.

No bulbs are out?!

Only change is recent work by the excellent Davtec.

Any idea where to start looking?

I do not have VCDS access?!

Mines because of LED indicators but you’ve said you don’t have any LEDs so there goes that idea…..

Any LED bulbs in headlight units?

It could just be a poor connection to one bulb.
It’s a pain, but try removing each one in turn and cleaning it up, then re-inserting.

Wire wool - anything with a bit of abrasion.

I sometimes get a bulb out warning if the starter battery is low but it goes out if the van is restarted after a short run

If you follow my logic (which might be wrong!);
If the bulb out light illuminates on start up it's probably linked to a DRL.
If it doesn't, then try in turn illuminating brake lights, dipped headlights, main beam, right indicator, left indicator and so on.
You might notice that the bulb out light illuminates whenever you do any one of those things, which would give you a starter for ten.
