If any one you kind folk familiar with the mechanics of these 150 bhp engines, I'd appreciate some comments. This is a sale from a private dealer.

Firstly, no physical service log book. No idea why not. I assume you should get one these days? (I had one with my old 5.1). There is paper work receipts showing service details below:

First service there is a receipt for is 21 months from new in 2019 (26k miles), so 2yr LongLife service I guess, but that seems a long time to me!

Second service is 2021 (43k).

Then third service in 2023 (68k).

Nothing since and its on 80k miles now. So I can only guess it's all long life service. Is that still the norm on T6's?

Secondly, on a recent garage inspection there was a note that the oil was overfilled. And it was certainly at the top of the dipstick today, but can't say if it was overfilled.

However, on the drivers side of the engine (behind the timing belt) seemingly the sump seal, it is a bit oily on the one side. See the pics. Apart from that, the engine is pretty clean (i dont think it hasn't been cleaned up for sale, it wasn't immaculatley clean). The engine tray didn't seem oily at all, so it's not some horrendous leak, but I keep asking myself why was/is the oil level high?

Si I'm trying to work out if this is a small leak, or just drip off from a wobbly hand when pouring oil in. And is it something to be too worried about, or expensive to fix.

Apart from that, it's a very nice van, drives a treat, can't see any smoke. But I'm trying to be sensible on this and paint the whole picture and not just buy it on how nice it looks, as its a lot of money for a 2017 van!

Oh, lastly, there are scrapes and a tiny bit of surface rust inside the van ontop of both the sills of electric sliding doors. I never had any on my old manual T5 sliding doors, so any comments on that too please.

i have to remind myself it is a 7year old van, not brand new!

Thanks in advance T6v community!! Xx

You're clearly doing as much as you can to avoid buying a lemon, good for you!
Secondly, on a recent garage inspection there was a note that the oil was overfilled. And it was certainly at the top of the dipstick today, but can't say if it was overfilled.

It is of course possible that the oil has been over filled, but it is also possible that unburnt fuel has found its way into the sump and diluted the oil, adding to its volume.
This is not uncommon and it's not restricted to VW engines.
Have a read of some of these threads for a better understanding of oil dilution;

Oil on and around the oil filter housing wouldn't worry me too much, it's likely just left by whoever did the last service.

Good luck in your search for the right van.

I'd be inclined to find one with a full history no rush, no scrapes, and no oil leaks.

There is no shortage of T6's out there, so why risk saddling yourself with one that is already raising your eyebrows before you've even bought it? It may well be fine, but why even consider the risk? Even if it's cheap you could wipe out the saving you've made trying to straighten out a sub-par example.

Personally I'd walk and find another, but it's your call. As Dave says, fair play for making your time to consider the issue.
